With 25 percent of the vote, Dr. Ben Carson is the clear leader among Colorado Republicans and tops Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton 52 - 38 percent in a general election matchup, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

In fact, Clinton trails all leading Republican contenders by margins of 11 percentage points or more, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.

Trailing Carson in the Republican race are Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida with 19 percent, Donald Trump with 17 percent, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas with 14 percent, Carly Fiorina with 5 percent, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky with 3 percent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 2 percent and 11 percent undecided.

Among Republicans, 32 percent say they "would definitely not" support Trump, followed by 21 percent who would not support Bush.

Clinton leads the Democratic field with 55 percent, followed by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont with 27 percent, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley at 2 percent, with 15 percent undecided.

"A chilly if not frigid reception for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in her second quest for the White House," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

"As winter moves into the Rockies, Coloradans say the Democratic front-runner would get bruised and beaten by all the top GOP opponents, and absolutely crushed by Sen. Marco Rubio and Dr. Ben Carson."

...

From November 11 - 15, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,262 Colorado voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.8 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones. The survey includes 474 Republicans with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points and 404 Democrats with a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percentage points.

This- combined with his 16-point margin over Hillary- is a very good poll for Rubio

Colorado is a very politically individualist state, let's not forget.

Outside of New Hampshire, New Jersey (and those Northeast states) and one Texas poll (because Cruz took votes from Carson).  Since late October till now, every other state polls are either Carson leading, or tie, or Trump slightly ahead.  No polls said Trump is 10+ points ahead like Morning Consult or Reuters are suggesting.

Of course, since Colorado isn't even going to conduct a straw poll at their GOP caucuses, it doesn't really matter who's "winning" among rank and file GOP voters.  What matters (to the extent that anything matters this far in advance) is who is winning among party activists, not ordinary voters.

And even that doesn't really matter, unless there's some kind of deadlocked convention scenario.  If it's a normal year, and we have a de facto nominee by the time the primaries are over, then the Colorado delegates will presumably back that de facto nominee.

But if you want to try to read something into this poll beyond its non-existent impact on Colorado's delegates, I guess it would be that the supposed "Carson implosion" that some are trying to read into the polls still looks like an artifact of all the internet polls we've been seeing recently.  In live interview polls like this one, Carson still does fine.

Drone Colorado and Quinnipiac already. How dare they insult President Donald J. Trump.
