This isn't the first time Carson has talked about the government monitoring free speech. He recently suggested the Dept. of Education should monitor colleges for any 'political bias'

This isn't the Party of Lincoln or even the Party of Reagan.
This is the Party of Joe McCarthy.

There is great overlap between McCarthy and Reagan.

Gov should monitor press for anything 'Anti-American'? He has got to be kidding.
In 1983 the American media was controlled by 50 corporations. In 1996 the US Congress passed the 'Telecommunications Act', it freed the hands of big capital in gaining control over all American media. As a result, today, 90% of American media and the most widely read information Internet portals are effectively controlled by 6 media giants who work under the governmental censorship: CNN, CBS, VIACOM, COMCAST, Time Warner and NewsCorp.

CNN is a subsidiary of  TW and Viacom and CBS are  still  "controlled"  by  Redstone

He still opposes the NSA and the Patriot Act. The media twists his words a lot.

"I mean, [our society is] very much like Nazi Germany. And I know you’re not supposed to say ‘Nazi Germany,’ but I don’t care about political correctness. You know, you had a government using its tools to intimidate the population. We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe.” - Ben Carson
