Should the Washingtons rename themselves (not a matter of Washington being a slaveowner or whatnot, just a matter of clarity)? And to what?

If one of them were to change, I think it would make more sense for DC to keep it's name, although I'm not sure what you rename the state to. Cascadia, maybe?

Seriously? No. But I voted option one because it'd be cool to see the State of Cascadia.

DC would just be called the state of Columbia. Obviously.

I would strongly oppose that, we don't need anything more named after that guy and the drama that comes with it.

Ironically enough, Washington state was already renamed (from Columbia District) to avoid confusion with the District of Columbia:

Which also explains how British Columbia was given its name....

Yes, the state should. We have absolutely no connection to George Washington, and he probably had no clue of anything about what became the state except for a rough idea of the coastline. Cascadia, Tahoma, and Salisha are some possible alternative names that have a more local connection.

Anyway, to respond to the OP, Washington State should probably rename itself a second time -and my preference is 'Cascadia'.

If there is a name change, I'm against Cascadia unless we merge with Oregon.

washington state should rename itself (salisha sounds pretty nice) and washington d.c. should drop the d.c. part.
