Recently, I've read an article in which the writer says that the United States needs a new national anthem because the current anthem is warlike and was written by a slaveowner (seriously?).

What are your thoughts on this?

I've always thought America the Beautiful would be a better national anthem, despite the fact that it's less secular. Either that, or just pick a different verse from the Star-Spangled Banner.

This is also a strong contender in my mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M11SvDtPBhA

I literally don't care about Francis Scott Key owning slaves. Have we gotten this easily offended? He was a bad dude. So was everyone else who wasn't a millennial, apparently.

I like ours just fine.  It being warlike isn't bad.

Hail Columbia, but I wouldn't change the anthem for some living caricature of Cultural Marxism. I almost think this is a joke.

That would be "cultural appropriation" of another culture, unless you want us back

Why is it that it is always a liberal that makes suggestions like changing the national anthem?

Because conservatives, well, conserve traditions?

I've always been fond of The Battle Cry of Freedom

Except there's two different versions of it, each representing a different definition of freedom.

Thought of another: the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Doesn't really address the issues of the current national anthem - it's very overtly Christian as well as pro-war - but much more catchy. Plus, nobody can accuse the Battle Hymn of the Republic as being pro-slavery.

It's a great song, but people don't need to psychologically prepare themselves to die before the Super Bowl.

As a Seahawks fan, I respectfully disagree.
