There are very few people arguing that Carson will be the nominee, or even that he will win any of the early caucuses.

Yet, he's polling almost as well as Trump, who is always involved in these conversations, and polling better than Cruz and Rubio, who seem like more plausible nominees.

I also don't see Carson going far in the primary myself, but I feel it's worth discussing: what do you think will be the ultimate fate of Carson's 2016 campaign?

I think he'll be one of the last 4 candidates standing, but ultimately falls short of winning the nomination, as it is highly likely Trump or Cruz will win Iowa.

Doubt it. Too risky after the Palin fiasco in 2008. You don't want a VP candidate who at any point could utter something tremendously stupid and ignorant to derail your campaign.

I'm predicting it now, Haley, Portman, Sandoval, Cruz or Christie will be the VP candidate (irregardless of nominee)

Sandoval is pro-choice and pro-gay rights, so he's out.

If Trump wins, Cruz seems likely.

If Rubio wins, Kasich or Portman seems likely.

If Cruz wins I have no freaking clue.

If Bush wins, Haley or Portman would be good.

If Carson wins, we're all screwed.

If Carson wins, we'll get President Clinton.

This will of course screw us over in a different way.

His policy ideals suck, his overzealous religious ideology scares a lot of people myself included. He has a hard time understanding basic macroeconomics and he no use being in this race at all.

I think he'll finish third in Iowa and will drop out of the race after a 3rd/5th place in South Carolina.

General Election H2H's are meaningless at this point. Clinton demolishes Carson in a general election and I think most republicans will eventually realize this and vote for someone who is not Carson.

I think he'll stay in longer that that, but he wont win Iowa since Cruz and Trump supporters are more enthusiastic about their candidates than Carson's are. I think he'll come 5th or 6th in NH then do 2nd or 3rd in SC.

The Bradley Effect will take care of him sometime before NV, assuming he even makes it to caucus day.

Carson will be out by mid-January.

He doesn't want to be running for President,  facing attacks and criticism that, without regard for their accuracy, can destroy his name and reputation. He was in this for the free PR (and fundraising) and as soon as his poll numbers drop, he'll endorse someone (likely Cruz) and withdraw with a sigh of relief.

I think Carson will drop into the 8-12 range by mid-December, pushing Trump back over 30 and Cruz into the high teens.  He'll probably stay on for a few states but he'll be a non-factor who gets 10% in Iowa and then dwindles down to zero, just like Rick Perry in 2012.
