At last!

One country resists the incessant Russia violations of airspace of other countries. They have more guts than Canada.

It crashed in Syria, so Turkey might be full of sh**t about their airspace being violated.

Turkey released a military radar plot

They are saying it crossed into their space 10 times so I guess it was flying around in a loop mostly in Syria but periodically crossing into Turkey. The main thing is that the Russians have been bombing Turkmen rebels in northern Syria who are supported by Turkey. The Turks have already complained about this and this pilot gave them the excuse they needed to do something about it.

It will be very interesting to see how the Russians respond in the coming days.

Guts? If only they had a bit more brain.

There's a video out there of the "moderate rebels" chanting "Allahu akbar" while celebrating over the pilot's corpse.

That video must be a fake because per Reuters, both pilots are still alive

That wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. They're openly attacking our Kurdish allies and they are alarmingly complicit in allowing ISIS to smuggle weapons across its borders

Russia got what they finally had coming to them after years of their pilots routinely violating NATO nations' airspace.

It was well within Turkey's right to shoot down a warplane crossing its borders after repeated warning.

Their location on the map insulates them from knee-jerk reactions by other countries that would agree with you.

According to Yahoo News, the downed pilots were shot dead by Turkmen forces in the area.

Good for Turkey.  It's about time a NATO country stands up to Russian belligerence.  Now Putin will be exposed as all bluster, because in reality there is nothing Russia can or is willing to do about this without getting into a war they can't win.

disregarding the said rebels, Allahu Akbar is like saying Jesus Christ or Sma'a Israel it's not a radical battle hymn. I would say even secular Arabs would use it as a proverb at times of distress

The Turks are blatantly in the wrong here and remain exceptionally poor 'allies' to the United States.

Even Spaniards still say "ojala", and they haven't been Arab for some centuries now.

As many people have said "Allahu akbar" is used by most Muslim Arabs, so these rebels could be secular Muslims. Of course they're not, people can read up on this groups conquest of the Armenian populated coastal city of Kessab, where they vandalised Churches and force converted the few old people who stayed back. They're not ISIS bad, but they're not secular or even moderate.

Do you know what "Allahu akbar" means? I assume you do, but I was just wondering.

This is not good news. It is, of course, bad news. Why would anybody want to get into a war with Russia? That makes no sense.

God (Allah) is Great. But here's the thing I know a great number of atheists who use the word God or religious terms in common speech.
