Are you sure they weren't libertarian-conservatives essentially conservatives with a slight libertarian flavor to them?

I am a libertarian-liberal and I support Carson, but I support Trump first. Carson's base:

1) Evangelicals
2) Moderates (including libertarians)
3) Older blacks

He is probably losing a chunk of his evangelical base due to negative press, poor performance on foreign policy issues and Trump's attack.

You are not a libertarian if you support Donald Trump. I am a conservative-libertarian hybrid myself. Libertarians don't support forcing widows from their homes to build a casino, corporate welfare, economic "stimulus", government-run health care, and trade regulation.

Who would you rather have as President - Hillary or Trump? No candidate is according to my liking, so I am essentially choosing the lesser evil.

I guess a Steve King endorsement holds quite bit of water.

I bet it's because of that fetal-tissue "scandal".

A little over a week ago, Cruz was just barely pushing 10% now all of a sudden he shoots up in a weeks span to 23% a net gain of 13% in just 7 days time, what is causing this suddenly change from Carson to Cruz cause it seems like 90% of Cruz's gain is coming from Carson.
\
Personally, i do not understand why 90% of Cruz's 'votes' are coming from Carson. It requires some reasons. What they have in Common, what could attract the voters? Both of them oppose same-sex marriages and run as Republicans. Ted Cruz denies climate change theories as well as global warming. Dr. Carson denies Darwin's theory.
I do not know what else do they have in common...

One of them repeatedly lies to the American people and has done so for decades. The other is Hillary Clinton. Tongue

But seriously, Clinton, because at least she's not a RINO who's flipped on everything. You can get a sense of where Clinton is, while Trump holds very liberal positions, many of which are to her left.

Part of Carson's appeal is that he's an intelligent deeply religious man. When voters realize that intellect isn't the same as knowledge, it makes sense to shift to Cruz, a guy with similar appeal, the advantages of some positive news stories, and a deeper understanding of policy.

Correct answer.

Incidentally, we saw this dynamic repeat itself with several candidates in 2012, so it shouldn't be too surprising to see it happen with Carson now.

Contrary to the story pushed by establishment hacks in this thread, it seems that most of Carson's voters are shifting to TRUMP:

Of course they are. Trump's and Carson's base partially overlap. They share moderates and evangelicals.
