its gospel truth in the pundit class that the white vote is shifting R relative to the population at-large. People always say, Obama couldn't win with the demographics of X years ago but does anyone wonder how Obama would do among the white population of 50 years ago relative to the white vote now?

One interesting paradox is that I think there's more white lefties but less actual white democrats. Does anyone kind of notice this?

America was broadly to the left as well back 50 years ago.

America was broadly to the left as well back 50 years ago.

On economics, perhaps, but no way on abortion, gay marriage, transgender issues, etc.

While whites would have been more willing to vote D, racism would have meant Obama would do worse among whites 50 years ago. He probably wouldn't be able to win a national primary.

I don't really think it's a paradox if it's true, and I'm not really sure if it's even true. It depends on how you define "lefty."

Left vs right was too different 50 years ago to really push this. Left and right weren't as exactly defined as they are now even back in the 90's.
