I would like to talk to you about our wilderness areas.

The incumbant, Senator DanielX, voted in favor of allowing drilling for oil in the arctic wilderness. I strongly oppose this viewpoint.

Our country's dependency is oil is excessive. With all of our technology, we can do better. We don't need more oil; we need something that provides energy BETTER than oil.

We have enough oil with our current taps to meet our needs today. The needs of tomorrow can be met with hydrogen power, fusion power, solar power or wind power.

Let's work toward a cleaner tomorrow.

Just as an FYI, since I created the bill in the first place, the total revenues from the leasing of this land will come to roughly $2.4 billion a year, according to estimates.

In the bill, I specifically set aside $1.2 billion for cutting the deficit (a big problem here, especially will be an issue come July) and $1.2 billion to potentially spend on clean energy needs, such as the ones you mention below, recognizing that from the wealth of the present we can creat the wealth of the future.

It is my sincere hope that sometime soon a Senator with great expertise in this area will come forth with a plan to deal with this money from appropriations and we will not cut off his foot to spite his toe.

Anyway, I'm done sermonizing.  Smiley
