Does anybody have any small, local politicians that they could see making it big in the future, or becoming "rising stars" in their party in a couple of cycles? I'm thinking city council members, state house members, even school board people. I'll put new Seattle City Council member Lorena Gonzalez (not to be confused with the California State Representative of the same name) and Washington State Senator Pramila Jayapal for mine. I could definitely see either of them running for WA-7 and WA-9 respectively when the incumbents retire, and maybe for statewide office eventually.

I hope the Mayor of Oklahoma City becomes Governor - he's a Republican with a sense for economic development - but likely he would be beat in a primary but some kind of loon.

I want to see John Barrow run for Governor or Senate just to laugh at his fake accent once again.

JD Ford, state senate candidate for District 29 in 2014. He came close to toppling the Republican incumbent in an overwhelmingly Republican district and shows a lot of promise.

Jeff Jackson and Tricia Cotham - two NC state legislators who I hope run statewide soon. Josh Stein is another, and he's already running for AG.

I'm a big fan of Doug Owens here in Utah, I hope he wins in UT-04.

Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams (another Democrat) is also someone who I think could go far, even in Utah.

In my birth state of Washington, I'm a big fan of Cyrus Habib, it'd be great if he became a Congressman or even US Senator.

There is a Delegate in Virginia named Rob Bell who I remember thinking very highly of when he ran for the AG nomination in 2013.

Kansas State Rep. Brandon Whipple
Brandon is somebody I know pretty well on a personal level and I'd vouch to say I haven't met many politicians who care more about helping people and doing their job. He's knows the ins and outs of things and combines that with a personable attitude. He knocks just about every door in his 55% Romney district and wins by a solid 10% margin regularly. I don't know if he has aspirations at running for congress (hella uphill battle), but man would he be good on a higher level.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti
Idk if he counts as "minor" per se, but he's an unknown to many folks. He's charismatic, progressive, young, and smart. I would love to see him in the senate or as a governor.

Former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer
Carl Brewer did a pretty good job as mayor. He laid the groundwork for the revitalization that Wichita so badly needs. Moreover, he's a good guy. I'd like him to be in higher office, even thouh it would be difficult to win.

KCK Mayor Mark Holland
I don't know an awful lot about him, but I heard him speak at Washington Days (our JJ dinner) this last year and was thoroughly impressed. He's a preacher and framed his progressive rhetoric in terms of morality. It was wonderful. While Kevin Yoder isn't what most folks would call "controversial", in a good Democratic year, Holland might be able to win in KS-3.

Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal
She is very knowledgeable on issues involving systemic racism and systemic poverty.

Sheena Bellows, my favorite and largely ignored candidate of 2014. I'd like to see her run again in 2018 and hopefully upset King or maybe 2020 when Collins has hopefully retired.

I want Joe Kennedy III to be President some day.

Mike Frerichs will be the next Governor of Illinois.

Daniel Biss in the IL State Senate is going to make it far in state politics.

I am very impressed by Halsey Beshears, who is a client of the consulting firm I intern for. I also like our other client, Matt Gaetz, who I think will eventually replace Jeff Miller.

He's not exactly a "minor" politician though. Everyone knows his name and he has a better-than-zero chance of becoming president.

Newly-elected Duluth Mayor Emily Larson is the first female mayor our city has ever had, and she's young and charismatic. I'd love to see her run for Governor or some other office in the future.

I like Lee Zeldin a lot. Had a chance to meet him at a conference in D.C. a few years ago when he was in the NY State Senate. I hope he builds a nice career in Congress and eventually becomes apart of leadership.

Bill Schuette will be Michigan's next governor.  I also like former state senator Tom George, who ran for governor in 2010.  He's probably not interested in future political ventures, but I think he should go for it.

Tom Cross should go for Illinois Secretary of State in 2018, because I suspect Jesse White will retire.  Either way, he should keep himself in the spotlight; he'd make a great successor for Rauner as governor (or even a primary challenger if Rauner's popularity doesn't recover).  Of course, Kirk Dillard would be a good choice too.

Nichola Mallon was our Lord Mayor last year. She's absolutely lovely, and I'm hoping the SDLP has a future for her.

I really like my County Executive, Mark Hackel, I think it'd be pretty cool if he ran for Governor in 2018, one of the Democrats I could support.

I hope Mike Lee makes it big.

...By which I mean Michael D Lee, the 2014 and hopefully 2016 Democratic nominee for Utah State House Seat 30, who normally goes by "Mike Lee". Very personable fellow, police officer, and strong Democrat. Barely lost in 2014 (30 or so votes), and should try again. Everyone in the Utah Democrats jokes that he's "our Mike Lee".

Well 4 years ago I'd say Dan Jarvis, but he's virtually the heir apparent in the party now.

I think that current bunch of 'next labour stars' of Clive Lewis, Lisa Nandy and Chukka Umunna are pretty awful

Umunna and Lewis I can understand (Lewis less so), but why Nandy?
