Trying my hand at one of these, see how it works.

A New America begins in 1939

In the bed of a deep recession, President Franklin Roosevelt dies in office. His Vice President, John Nance Garner, rises to power and immediately upsets the balance that Roosevelt had made between the liberal and conservative Democrats. Garner's apparent hawkishness, his proposition for even tighter fiscal policy, and his backhanded attempts to reign in some of the effects of the New Deal has caused him to receive several primary challenges - two from the left in Former Agriculture Secretary Henry Wallace (who still advocates for the war but purposes expansion of the New Deal)  and Florida Senator Claude Pepper, the only non-interventionist in the Democratic primary, and one from the center (Alben Barkley, who is running as a compromise candidate).

The Republicans see an oppurtunity to take on the conservative President, but are divided in how to take him on - Conservative isolationists like Arthur Vandenburg and Robert Taft are standing on one side, demanding for an end to the talk of war and an end to the New Deal, while Moderate internationalist Wendell Willkie seems to be surging to the top of the polls. Thomas Dewey is also running, and is unsure of what position to take on the war, but he is generally in favor of the provisions of the New Deal but will attempt to find new ways to grow the economy. Finally, Former President Herbert Hoover is running again. LOL.
