Is it me, or does a major political figure from decades past always dies in the first week of the New Year? This happens every year, like clockwork.

I'm no expert and haven't even done so much as a google search, but it wouldn't surprise me if natural deaths tend to spike shortly after the holidays.  I've seen more than one elder hold out for one final opportunity to see loved ones and then decide it's time.

Dale Bumpers was a fine public servant

I was a big fan of Dale Bumpers.  I would have preferred him to run for President in 1992 and not Bill Clinton.

"Coincidences" like this sometimes make me wonder if the time someone dies is partially correlated with their willingness to live. The most evident example of this would probably be Jefferson and Adams both dying exactly fifty years after America became a nation.

One of the greatest public servants Arkansas has ever had besides the Rockefellers.
