In this unlikely scenario, I think the Party will realize that Kasich is their best chance at winning the general election, and nominate him. His favorability ratings are better than Clinton's; he is not associated with a "dynasty;" he will win Ohio, as well as independents; and his record is comparable to Clinton in experience.

This is literally the easiest poll question I've ever seen, with the answer obviously being Pat Toomey.

1. Romney
2. Ryan
3. Rubio (unless he clearly lost the primary)

Of those listed, the only ones seriously considered would be Rice, Ryan, Rubio, Romney, Walker and Kasich, in that order.  Because Rice would likely turn it down, Ryan would be my guess.

On a side note, I know that Polk was the only former Speaker to become President.  Have any Speakers of the House ever run for president while serving as speaker?

Marco Rubio/Condoleeza Rice

The Tea Party rallies around Rubio as establishment delegates watch Priebus and abandon Rubio for Kasich & a "Draft Rice" movement. By the third ballot, the top two establishment candidates, Chris Christie and John Kasich, have dropped out and endorsed Rice as Rubio has been endorsed by Cruz, Carson, and the othe TP candidates except the tanking Trump and persistent Paul. Rubio narrowly wins in the third ballot:

Rubio: 50.1%
Rice: 41.4%
Paul: 5.6%
Trump: 3.4%

Henry Clay in the election of 1824.

Romney/Thune. GOP grassroots, Hannity/Levin Talk Radio crowd reluctantly will support them in the general.

I'm inclined to agree.

I don't know who the Presidential candidate will be, but Ted Cruz would be a mandatory VP pick.  Indeed, Ted Cruz would well be the kingmaker.

Interesting thoughts so far.

I think in the end, it would come down to Paul Ryan or Marco Rubio for President. Paul Ryan probably won't entertain the idea of running for President until his kids are much older. However, he would be asked to run and he would probably do it for the good of the party, reluctantly. Ryan is loved by the establishment and he is not hated by most of the grassroots, some of the grassroots even like him. Marco Rubio is acceptable to the establishment and the grassroots and obviously he wants the job. People who are supporting Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Ted Cruz, and Ben Carson can all rally behind Marco Rubio in a general election.

I can see a scenario in which Mitt Romney is nominated, but I think Romney himself would prefer Paul Ryan or Marco Rubio.

Because of the convention rules it will have to be someone who ran this year, but I could see Cruz as a compromise candidate

I have to disagree with you. The GOP delegates aren't all tea party members, in fact most of them aren't. Cruz is not a "compromise candidate."

John Nance Garner was elected Vice President while Speaker. He had been the 3rd place candidate at the 1932 Democratic convention.

I feel like those rules could easily go out the window in an actual brokered convention.

It would obviously depend on how many delegates each candidate had won.
