As you all know, a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs has been attacked by a gunman.

Cruz is promoting a patently absurd theory that the gunman is some trans liberal activist, something that has been mentioned by a surprising number of conservative media outlets and nit-twits. For Cruz to respond this way to an appalling massacre is completely vile. Will there be repercussions?

This conspiracy theory is utter nonsense and appears to be the result of a typo on the voter registration form of the assailant. Worse, the way they are describing the gunman as "trans" seeks to further stigmatize, insult, and make fun of a very vulnerable community.

Reputable accounts suggest that the gunman's attack was inspired by a fervent anti-abortion ideology, an extreme version of the right-wing lunacy that is on witness at nearly every gay pride parade or large gathering in which protesters are on offer with absurd--often offensive--hate-filled signs.

The whole "gunman is trans" conspiracy will be definitively disproven in short order. Many of these conservative keyboard jockeys will have egg on their face as a result as will Cruz.

I understand that there are lots of reasonable religious and/or conservative people in this country who believe that life starts at conception. They disagree with women having access to safe abortion procedures and they support politicians who would prohibit the procedure. Understandably, conservatives will try to condemn the attacks without backtracking on their criticisms against Planned Parenthood and abortion providers. I think that's unfortunate but its understandable.

Personally, I believe that this attack is, partly, a result of the overblown, incendiary rhetoric of anti-abortion activists and politicians. Others can reasonably disagree with that assertion.

But to use this tragedy to create a new lie that tars a vulnerable group--trans women--who are being murdered at an appalling rate. That is just evil and I hope Cruz is hurt by this.

Well, this beats Carson's "the Pyramids were built for storing grain" conspiracy by a few country miles.

Please elaborate on the "typo" bit on a "registration" form. Thanks.

Please elaborate on the "typo" bit on a "registration" form. Thanks.

The shooter's voter registration lists him as F(emale) whereas everything else lists him as M(ale). Likely a misclick or typo by the clerk filling in the form.

Cruz knows his audience. The Republican Party is a bunch of Birch Society conspiracy theorists. Have been for a long time. Cruz recognizes this and acts accordingly.

Considering that conservatives are saying that shooting didn't occur anywhere near Planned Parenthood, it's not surprising that Cruz has a "truth" of his own regarding this event.

I'm surprised Huckabee had a more reasonable response to the shooting than Cruz.

Wow. I didn't think it was possible for me to hate Ted Cruz more than I already did. What a horrible person. I hope that the trans community doesn't suffer because of this.

The shooter shot up a parking lot and only entered the PP clinic when the cops showed up. Why didn't he go into the building before starting to shoot if he was attacking it specifically?

Are you asking why an insane person like "the shooter" did or did not do something in a logical manner ?
He had a gun, and was killing people. He was out of his mind. And, we don't even know yet if he may also have been drunk or on drugs.
Why would you give this guy the benefit-of-the-doubt, and assume that he would act in a rational manner, in regards to how he killed other individuals and tried to allude/hide from authorities ?

I've yet to see any evidence that he was anti-abortion and didn't merely flee into the nearest building when the cops showed up. It's all a bunch of speculation by people without any sources whatsoever.

You're being serious, aren't you? Wow.

I'm surprised Huckabee had a more reasonable response to the shooting than Cruz.

You know that a politician has gone off the deep end when even Mike Huckabee has a more thoughtful and reasonable stance than them.

So? Does it really take a genius to figure that out? Seems Trump has been far more successful at appealing to his audience than Cruz.

It doesn't take a genius to figure it out, but compared to the rest of the field, which either won't respond to the story, or its a dummy like Carly Fiorina who thinks the Planned Parenthood shooter was a protester, it's the right response even if it's a horrendous thing to say.
