After The False Spring

Premise
The year is 282 AC. Word has spread across the realm of the “dishonoring” of Lyanna Stark. Nobody has called their banners, and everyone stands at an uneasy peace, however the reactions to the disappearance of Lady Stark and Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen remain to be seen. Has Prince Rhaegar kidnapped Lady Lyanna? How will the Starks react, and Lord Baratheon, betrothed to the northern lady? Will King Aerys focus on finding his son or stamping out the usurpation he sees all around him? Will the lords of Westeros uneasy with the Targaryen dynasty rise up, or will they join together under their king? Welcome, my friends, to After The False Spring.

Playable Characters (at start)
-Lord Robert Baratheon (Spamage)
-Lord Rickard Stark (Enduro)
-Lord Jon Arryn (leonardothered)
-Lord Hoster Tully (Blair2015)
-Lord Tywin Lannister (Talleyrand)
-King Aerys Targaryen (Dkrolga)
-Prince Doran Martell (Dereich)
-Lord Walder Frey (Elmo)
-Lord Mace Tyrell (Lumine)
-Lord Quellon Greyjoy (Garlan Gunter)

Game Mechanics
Turns will function virtually the same way as in the forum's past ASOIAF games. In-game, each turn will cover two months time. You will roleplay as one of the main players.

This game will be based mostly on A Song of Ice and Fire, aka the novels. Therefore we recommend that you refer to http://awoiaf.westeros.org/ for your ultimate resource.

Turns will hopefully last no longer than two weeks. Orders will be executed in the order they are received. There will be troop dispositions and character objectives at the start of each turn. The POVs by badgate and malcolmx will signal the middle of the turn, generally with four or five days after publication to send in orders before the turn ends. Once each turn ends there will be an update covering everything that happened during the turn.

Players are permitted to do their roleplay communication and negotiation in the public threads if they choose.

VERY IMPORTANT: All communication by private message must be BCCd to both badgate and malcolmx!

-All players begin Turn 1 at peace with each other.

-Faceless Men are not available in this game. You may hire assassins against other characters at a cost. Success will increase your prestige while failure will lower it.

-Sellsword Armies: At the start of the game, there are five sellsword armies available in Essos for hire: two consisting of 10,000 soldiers and three consisting of 7,500. A second round of companies for hire will occur later in the game. All sellsword armies will take two full turns to travel and must land on the eastern shore of Westeros, but you can direct them where to land. They will be available for other orders at the start of the third turn after hire.

We will have the following game threads: Rules & Sign Up, General game thread, and three regional threads: North, South, and King’s Landing.

-The results of plots, negotiations with NPCs, and battles will be determined by good ol’ dice.

Unique Abilities
Each playable character has a unique ability. These unique abilities are designed to enhance the playing experience. If a character dies, the ability will either be transferred to their heir (who becomes playable) or reimagined for the new playable character(s) that appear in the dead one's place.

These unique abilities will all be unknown until the start of the first turn, to keep them from influencing your choice in who to play as. Once you have chosen your character, you will receive a PM from either badgate or malcolmx informing you of your character's UA. Some of the UA may become public knowledge in time, due to their nature.

The numbers for the Riverlands seem low; they are the most densely populated region in the seven kingdoms even above the Reach or at the very least tied with them, they just aren't as big and are seldom united at any point in the history of ASOIAF. It's also of a good size

Randyll Tarly, Redwyne or Florent should probably be playable as well considering that Walder is playable, just my two cents as a good way to help break up the powerhouse of the Reach Grin

I'll probably pick one up as well, though I wanted mad king ;}

Walder Frey is a bit unique though in the sense that the Freys seem to be pretty much their own faction and have such a vital strategic position under their control that no one can really do anything about it.

I'm in, of course, but I'll be virtually unavailable for a week. I'll stick with Doran.

slightly against my better judgment YES

Tentacles are coming...

EDIT: are we still looking to recruit for the empty slots? I have one person in mind

ANOTHER EDIT: it says above that only the mods do PoVs? Can we do some too? I so enjoy them

I think I'm the one person Garlan referred to above Tongue

I casually watched the last game he played in but thought it too late to join in myself. Would be cool to get in on this one from the first turn.

Might I please lay claim to Walder Frey?

I assume Badgate meant end of turn POVs and the like.  You guys are absolutely welcome to write bonus POVs if you wish.  We are indeed still looking to fill empty slots.

Pretty funny that no one wants to be eponymous Robert yet! (in control of baby Stannis...) what hipsters we all are avoiding the obvious...

Well, it is a lot of responsibility, xD

And personally I prefer having an endless source of manpower....

Obviously it would be great to have someone playing as Robert, though hopefully it goes without saying that we don't expect the game be identical to the canonical account of this time period in the books/show.

I've been in control of Walder for less than a day and already I'm having far too much sympathy for him for comfort. This should be fun.

Heh.

Edit: I just tried firing off a personal message and it said I'm now allowed to do that? Is there someone I can speak to, to get this fixed? Thanks Smiley

I feel like you need a certain number of posts to do that.  Eight, ten, something like that.  Make like eight test posts in this thread and delete them right afterward.  Maybe that will work?

Robert shouldn't be necessary for the beginning: he'd start the game at the Gates of the Moon (assuming the false spring was over) as Jon Arryn's ward.

And yes, the longer you play as someone the more you'll sympathize with them. I was never on Team Stannis before the last game.

Up to ten now, will see if I'm able.

Edit: Apparently not! Will try for 11 Tongue

Edit: Still no luck. Ah well, I'm Walder Frey. It's not like I'm going to reply to any of these ravens anyway.
