As you can see, the left (SPD+KPD) remained relatively stable during the Weimar Republic, between 35% and 40%, and the NSDAP increased through the decline of the mainstream conservative parties (Center, DNVP, BVP, DVP). I don't think the NSDAP voters were trolling. I think they wanted something radical to fight against the red threat. They knew what they were doing.
There were four million new voters between 1928 and 1930. Is it not possible that at least a small fraction of those were apathetic but just voted for the most crazy party for the lulz?
