What is your personal opinion about Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code”?

I thought it had a contrived ending. It was an interested read beyond that. I actually preferred Angels and Demons.

Pure b.s..  I have no problem with it being heretical but it is also bad history and art history.  Brown likes to have it both ways by saying it is fiction while at the same time defending it as being factually based.

It seemed kind of anti-climactic to me. It's high point was half-way through the book.

It's been on the best seller list for 2 full years now! Thats got to be a big record. I read it last spring, only after others had told me how great it was. Normally, I never read mysteries.

As a Catholic with issues (with the church) I loved The Da Vinci Code. People who hate it are concerned about its religious message but I was more interested in the historical details, like The Nicean (sp?) Council in 300 AD, The Knights Templar, the medieval papacy, etc.

The character of Silas was really creepy. I can't wait for the movie to come out. It sucks that the Anglican Church won't let them shoot scenes in Westminster Abbey. There's already a saying that Anglicanism is just "Catholic-lite" (i.e. Catholic with a softer edge), this just proves that further.

I've been waiting for the damn thing to come out in paperback. I have no problem buying hardbacks if they're books I really want to read, but I'm only mildly interested in this one.

I work at a library and each library usually has several copies. At mine there is no longer a waiting list for them, you should just get it at your library.

I could- and I've been meaning to- but each time I'm down there it slips my mind.

At first it reads like an interesting mystery. But the "clues within clues" idea is overplayed. Ultimately it ends up nowhere. I thought it was disappointing.

An interesting, though forgettable (I hardly remember the thing now), read, but definitely not factually accurate at all.  There's a reason you find this one in the Fiction section.

It's a historical thriller. That's all. Most of the "history" in it is complete bullsh*t o/c, but that's the case with most similer novels.
The Catholic Church has dealt with it in the wrong way; by complaining about it they only boost sales...
