FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Referring to himself as the "tip of the spear" for Kentucky, Matt Bevin took the oath of office to become Kentucky's 62nd governor during an invitation-only ceremony just after midnight in the state Capitol.

Bevin succeeds Democrat Steve Beshear, who could not seek re-election because of term limits. His election was historic, becoming only the ninth Republican governor in the state's 223-year history, the second one in more than four decades.

And Jenean Hampton, his lieutenant governor running mate, becomes the first black person to ever hold statewide elected office in Kentucky.

Bevin took the oath of office with his hand on a Bible that belonged to his eldest daughter, Brittiney, who was killed in a car accident in 2003.

"It is a tremendous honor to be chosen to be the tip of the spear for the commonwealth of Kentucky," Bevin told about 200 people in brief remarks after taking the oath. "If we truly love one another, if we look out for one another, if we have each other's back, if Republican and Democrat alike, if we rise to the occasion that has been presented to us, a fresh start to a new day, then the greatest days of the commonwealth of Kentucky are indeed yet to come."

Wow, first day in office and Bevin is already gloating about how many poor people he will kill.

So are people going to complain about it - or do something about it?

There's not much KY can do. All Bevin needs is four house democrats going against their party to get Kynect repealed.

I don't think anyone is going to die buddy. Bevin is a good Chrisitan man who wouldn't murder in fact he has saved lives by saving his daughters out of Africa. Bevin is a hero not a murderer.

I love how democrats seem to think that without government help people just roll over and die. Will Bevins repeal of Kynect cause some hardship? Probably. But the idea that until ACA came around that there were just helpless poor people dying in the street all over is silly.

Sounds like a mighty good reason not to repeal it.

Oh look, Wulfric has adopted the Democrat position of "disagree with me and children will die".

It's their default position on medicaid, welfare benefits, the minimum wage, gun control, abortion (ironically), supporting war in Syria, opposing war in Iraq, new FDA regulations, illegal immigration, global warming, pretty much anything you can demagogue if you pile inference upon inference.

I assume that everyone here will agree that KY much like their neighbor to the east (WV) rank near the top in every public health problem--obesity, smoking, diabetes, poverty, disability, drug abuse, death by overdose.  Obviously, not a healthy state, especially in the mountains.  A substantial number of people live on the edge, so any negative disruption in their healthcare can be expected to have a greater impact that among a more healthy population.  Bevin strikes me as someone who has a bigger mouth than brain, so certainly depending on how willing others are to go along will determine the impact of whatever nebulous reform Bevin has in mind, and they may not go along  since the medicare expansion is very popular in KY.

Also, the long-term decline of coal in CAPPalachia is approaching a total collapse, so despite Bevin's or Mitch's or anyone elses claim to the contrary, the EKY job deficit will continue to worsen and put even more pressure on the public health system.

Actually more like pretty much anything you can find solid research to back up the claim.  I don't know about all the things you mention, but on most of those there is actual evidence to show that people will in fact die if government action isn't taken.
