The former city is a third world islamic capital city. According to estimates the population increased from 7 million to 10 million, and the mega city's population of nearly 19 mil has surpassed Los Angeles.

The latter, pronounced CARE-O, is located at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. It was a moderate sized riverboating city in the late 19th century, it's population peaked at 15.2k in 1920 and has dropped to ~2500.

Cairo IL is moreso pronounced Cay-ro, not Care-o.

And I'd rather live in Cairo IL.

My late grandmother was from Cairo. Maybe a jaunt there could help me get in touch with my family's white trash roots.

Across the Hudson River from me is Cairo, New York, with yet a third pronunciation.  Cairo, Egypt is Ky-row (with Ky rhyming with my), the one in Greene County, NY, is Care-oh. It's economy is about as robust as the one in Egypt. Main Street is largely boarded up. Paint seems to be in very short supply. Gentrification seems to have missed this town so far in the Hudson Valley.

Surprised to see a pretty clear victory for the city pictured above.

I've always heard it said Karo, as in Karo syrup.  Well, the only person whom I ever heard say it said it that way.  I worked with a guy in California for several years who was from there and that's how he said it.

The latter, due to Christian persecution in Egypt.

Nobody counts as third world anymore.  The soviet union died about 25 years ago, and without a US-friendly world vis-a-vis a Soviet-friendly world, and all the rest (3rd world), the term no longer has any meaning.

I'd have to pick my home state, but it's not as easy of a pick as it should be ... Cairo, IL has a very dark and sad history with a lot of racial problems.  It is more or less a ghost town in the Twenty-First Century.

After watching this video, I honestly don't know. I don't think I could take living in Silent Hill.
