All human beings are completely and utterly selfish.

Thankfully you are not reflective of all humanity

Do more or fewer people think of OJ as a hero since 1995?

Look at what OJ was known for. The point is, celebrity + personal drama = potent mix

And I don't think anyone's denying that.

Well if your complaint is that he gets undue attention I agree and the reason is obvious. It afflicts all those in a similiar situation, not unique to him in any way. I just find the casual hatred to be amusing.

Did you know that the term has been extended to other uses since that time?

Yes. Wrongly.

It looks as though it is commonly accepted usage:

I think the reason is that he was rich.  Everyone knows it is a greater tragedy for a rich to be maimed or handicapped severely, as he had previously the potential for a happy life.  When a working class is maimed he is no doubt even worse off than the maimed rich, but no one really cares as his life was already miserable in the first place.

Can you suggest a better word that sums up:
"One who opposes technical or technological change"?

The fact that Christopher Reeves didn't give a flip about the handicapped before he was himself doesn't improve my opinion of him much anyway...

Amazing point, Ebowed. Christopher Reeve is the devil. Let's all join the "I HATE Christopher Reeve" Club. Thank you Ebowed.
Whoa there.  Someone brought up Christopher Reeve, and I remembered a rant written about the subject by Maddox (a very funny man).  I didn't realize merely linking it was a problem.

I don't care. Using "Luddite" to describe such a person is ignorant and innacurate.

Very helpful, Alcon, though somehow not the mot juste like Luddite.  I for example am a technophobe in a sense, but not a Luddite.

Of course you're not a Luddite. You're not a textile worker, facing unemployment due to increased technology in the industry, who's decided that the only way they can save you're job is to break into a mill and smash the looms.

It is funny it didn't occur to them to smash their owners!

Good lord man, you think it is offensive to suggest the working class has a good reason to smash their overlords?  Are you sure you're not a Rightist?

Excuse me? What the f*** are you going on about here? Making sick jokes at the expense of desperate poverty stricken textile workers is appalling and I happen to find it pretty damn offensive, especially coming from an overweening, spoilt, perverted, little rich kid like you.

I wasn't making a joke.  I was making the rather obvious point that they should have smashed in the heads of their owners (employers) rather than the machines.

I don't think people realized it was written by a second rate satirist - a poor mans Howard Stern if you will.   Though I will occationally enjoy a bit of lowbrow humor, I just don't find his rants funny.  But if you like it, more power to you.  Whatever floats your boat.

The sad thing is that there really are people out there on the net who actually are that bitter and hateful.

I agree, and I believe that stem cell research should only be performed on stem cells that do not use embryonic sources or cloning.

Bush is a Luddite.  All religious are a danger to science and reason.

Personally I would grind up embryos and drink them in shakes if it would extend my life or improve health.

Religion has always been a threat to scientific progress.
