The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr (R-NC), says he has asked his staff to look into whether Texas Sen. Ted Cruz released classified information during Tuesday night's GOP presidential debate.

WOW, if true there has to be repercussions, that JUST CAN'T HAPPEN. PERIOD.

I'll save my judgement until it is proven that he did and not just an educated guess at this time.

Well RIP Cruz, I'm sure being arrested by the Obama administration would really put a dent in his popularity with the conservative base.

Looking forward to Trump calling for Cruz's execution (to the crowd's thunderous applause) at his next event (rally).

I personally think that there shouldn't be classified information in the government. Except maybe personal information from people who work for the government.

Should we assume you feel Rubio should face the same repercussions?

lol, who's on the Senate Intelligence Committee?

oh....

sounds like Cruz's "friends" in the Senate found an opportunity to trip him up and want to run with it.

I'm confused as to exactly what Cruz is supposed to have leaked, and what Rubio is supposed to have leaked, and just how the change in the law affects what phone conversations can be listened in on, after suspicion arises. The series of linked articles is kind of a jumble here.

My thought during the debate was that Cruz and Rubio both knew that intel gathering had NOT been restricted as a result of recent rulings, but that information was itself classified. Thus Rubio's "you're leaking da secritz!" criticism of Cruz, and Cruz's "you're a lying weasel!" anger at Rubio.

Ultimately similar to Ron Wyden's anger at then-NSA chief Gen. Hayden's denying spying on Americans when Wyden KNEW via his own classified briefings that Hayden was lying.

The establishment going after Cruz for this will only help him, though.

Although I do not support Cruz, I believe revealing this was the right idea. Government surveillance should not be allowed, plain and simple.

A candidate getting arrested for treason would make this the greatest presidential campaign ever.

Since when is supporting freedom treason? I doubt Cruz will face any repercussions; the government is probably smart enough to realize the backlash they would face if they punished Cruz.

Mine was a general statement; this is >99% likely to amount to nothing.

I hope this means Cruz will be getting on the next plane to Russia...

I know where that sentiment comes from, but there is a lot that actually needs to be kept classified, at least at first. For some examples: military (movements, plans, tech, numbers, etc.), deals (many deals in their first stages are nowhere close to where they need to be when they are actually finished), or conversations (you don't really want it to get out that you think "such and such" is difficult to work with). So, yeah, there is a certain need for privacy in the government.

Ted Cruz being censured by the Senate would be a glorious sight, but it would probably help him the polls.

That...might not be a bad thing, actually. Especially if it helps him overtake Trump.

Rubio may have purposely lied about the policies to get Cruz to correct him on it.

I think Rubio planned this all out as entrapment, and I am disgusted. Rubio is no longer one of my favorites, and I hope he crashes and burns and his support goes to Christie.
