I spent the winter writing songs about getting better

I should point out that neither of my parents are particularly Christian. The religious aspects of Christmas for my family are mostly just things I do and drag them along to.

So wait, you didn't have a particularly religious upbringing, and yet drifted towards religion as you grew up?  That's different.

I come from a mindset and upbringing in which religion is instilled in children from an early age in the same way that belief in Santa and the Tooth Fairy is.  The parents then just let the kids figure out the truth for themselves as they grow up.

I understand people having religion because their parents were a lot more forceful about it, but to have a similar start in life to the way I described, and then gravitate towards religion is just a really strange concept to me.

Yeah, sure.  Obama's totally all about that Bible life, friend.

Option 2, I was invited to four Christmas dinners this year.  I love the season but I'm exhausted and poorer for it.

I'm secretly destroying Christmas by daring to see it as a winter festival of camaraderie and giving and drinking out of a plain red coffee cup.

Yes, tho for me the important part is the familial aspects of the holiday, not the celebration of the Nativity myths.
