What role do you think he would play in the 2012 or 2016 Presidential elections?  Popular two term governor of an early primary state.  He is also a Veteran.  Was highly praised by CATO for being a fiscal conservative/social libertarian that still played the GOP game.  Would attract the Paul crowd without the negative baggage/bad blood in the GOP to the Paul last name.

The best POD is have him quietly divorce and remarry in 2009, IMO. I think Sanford would have been my guy in 2016.

He wasn't a particularly effective governor. He struggled with his legislature and the courts. I don't see him running in 2012 or 2016.
