I do give credit for making me look up a phrase, but I cannot support the motion in question.

Christmas and work hit me harder than expected. We just got the tree up for heaven's sake. I Would get home and be basically a zombie with no patience, stress tollerance or energy left. So I would go on AAD and burn myself out enough to go to sleep.

I would have supported a four day recess from like the 22nd until 26th or something like that, but not this and obviously it is too late for that now.

I think the fact that the Senate can't even weigh in on a motion about the Senate's activity levels is telling.

Just my two cents.

Atlasia needs to just call a holiday from the 20th to the 1st, we work longer times than most politicians

Sine die is a huge political event in the Georgia legislature so I thought I'd throw in a little southern flair! Wink

Obviously, most of us simply took a few days off regardless. If Senators are willing to work through this week over New Year's Day, then that's up to the individual.

I'll keep this up until tomorrow to see if anyone has another proposal, and if not, I'll withdraw it.

Actually, I support this motion. As Blair noted, its unusual for a legislature to remain in session this time of year, and having passed the Continuing Resolution on the budget, the most pressing business before us (preventing a government shutdown) has been addressed. It would be much better to adjourn now and resume work once the holiday bustle is over than to try and maintain normal activity levels with only a few Senators available at any given time.

I think I may have misread the intention here. Wink If the goal is just to adjourn for the holidays, then I think it is fine to just select a future date. I'll propose as an amendment:

I appreciate the Southern touch, but I think it could stand for a little specificity.

I object.

The new Senate starts on Friday and two weeks is far too long in my opinion.

The class elected in December, have the longest wait of any before they can begin serving because the election is a week earlier. This would add nearly two weeks on top of that.

The most I could accept would be the 3rd.

NAY

If we were going to adjourn, it should've been earlier, and with an earlier end date.

After consulting the Constitution and realizing that the 71st Senate takes office today, and not next Friday as I had originally though, I am changing my vote to NAY.

I made the same mistake. With that said, I just proposed this amendment so it would be a definite timeframe rather than an indefinite one. I agree with Senator Kent that adjourning for the holidays should have been done earlier if at all.

Before I vote, why are we adjourning for a week? Is there really nothing to do?

The resolution was introduced prior to the Christmas holiday, but wasn't brought to a vote until now. Presumably, it no longer serves a purpose.
