The first isn't a suprise since I'm the one breaking from ideology in this case. He vetoed the gas tax increase: http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/5413166.html

Purely selfish reasons as I just don't want to pay another $.10 a gallon especially with the prices now. The roads do need repair and renovation, but there are better ways to raise taxes for that. Plus a gas tax is somewhat regressive (two people drive the same distance to work. One makes $20k a year, the other makes $100k. Who's affected more?)

And he actually proposed a tax increase. And what do you know it's my favorite type of tax increase!

http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/5415856.html

Raising cigarette taxes is never a bad thing in my view. If a person can't afford it, then try quitting, and there's one less person breathing that disgusting cancer causing sh**t around me. Perfect way to raise money. The righties will be pissed at him for this though, even though he has used some lame ass excuse as to why it's not a tax.

Regardless, there is still no chance that I will vote for him.

I like how once a tax affects you, you're against it.

He is actually a socialist. But only when it's other people being taxed.

What I meant was socially liberal and economically conservative.

Cigarettes are ckeap here and they do kill so whats wrong with increasing the price if it were to pay for things that the state needs.

We cant live in Bushs world where he gets $1.00 and spends $2.30. Ask any housewife they will tel you that bush is incompetent with money.

Personally I don't like any kind of a tax, but the gas tax is probably the fairest way of funding roads. Assumming you and I drive the same kind of car, if you drive 20,000 miles and I drive 10,000 you put twice  as much wear and tear on the road, so you should pay twice as much. With the gas tax you will. Also if you drive a monster SUV that weighs 10,000 lbs you are doing much more damage to the road, so you should pay more. Since that kind af a vehicle gets lousy gas mileage you will buy more gas and hence pay more tax. And your grandmother who only drives to church on Sunday would pay very little. Of course this is based on the assumption that the gas tax is used only for road building and maintenance. I would also want to offset that by cutting taxes elsewhere.

that's true but $.10 is just too much at the moment. Wait till oil prices drop at least.

If you use 20 gallons a week that only amounts to $2.00 .
Come on you cheapskate. LOL

Well actually I'm delighted to see that you've developed an aversion to taxes.  Smiley
