Isn't 'populist' a snarl word that Very Serious People deploy if they want to boost their ego? like a lefist calling somene a neoliberal or a libertarian crying about statists?

Yeah this is true to some extent as well, and seems to often be used by 'i'm a moderate, pragmatic social liberal and fiscal conservative' types in centre-right parties to deride their less liberal colleagues. For example, certain GOPers have been attacking Trump in this manner this cycle, and did so regarding Santorum, Huckabee and Buchanan in past elections. Another example might be the PC vs Reform divide in Canada in the 1990's (although I think Preston Manning has referred to himself as a populist, so I guess the word can be worn as a badge of honour too).

A proud liberal. Largely anti-populist in message.

Many reject the liberal label because of what the right has turned it into, but I don't abandon my label just because a group of loons don't like it.

I do reject the progressive label because of what it has come to mean to me.

If White liberals didn't think so highly of themselves, this would be an oxymoron.

We could say the same for conservatives

.....? Wtf are you going on about

Rockefeller is upset that academia and certain other "elite" fields are dominated by liberals, so he feels the need to overcompensate by reminding us that many conservatives are p***ks.

Except that their elitism is a result of the money they have, not necessarily any intellectual capacity.

I know a guy who's a no-sh**t American monarchist. He wants to reorganize government along the "Polish model," wherein nobles vote to anoint the King.

Isn't picking an ideology fun?

Right? Presumably he'd be one of the nobles. He'd probably give some boiler-plate answer about "property owners." Of course, like the vast majority of American home owners, he really just pays rent to a bank.

Elitism in general is something that should be avoided by any decent human being that wishes to have real-life friends, but I think what annoys me at least is that most "elitist" Republicans just want to be left alone, to keep more of their money and to spend it with their fellow country clubbers in a sheltered environment, while most "elitist" Democrats seem to need the world to know how smart they are and aren't content until everyone also knows how STOOPID their opposition is, LOL.  Additionally, as a finance major who will (hopefully but almost certainly) make significantly more money than your average college professor if successful, I'm not ready to give them the "intellect" edge just because they spend a huge chunk of their life specializing in a narrow area and publishing a bunch of articles to keep their job (I'm not dissing professors, as my mother is one; but she also often highlights the hypocrisy of the aloofness of academia), which is kind of funny because that's the only thing they have to lean on.

Communitarian wasn't listed, so I voted Theocrat, which isn't really accurate, but closer than Fascist, Monarchist, or any of the others.

Hmmm... so he's a complete moron or do he just hate America? I mean who look at the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and think that's a good model of government?

As for my political ideology socialism are the closest of the choice in here, through in truth if I had to describe myself I think a commutarian social liberal would likely be a close description, as I hold many of the socialist belief, but I don't believe in a planned economy.
