Is there any indication Ryan could be up for a presidential race in the future? Knocking him out of the House at the earliest convenience could save some trouble down the road by depriving him of any more success or attention as House Speaker. I think the defeat itself may be a blow to his record.

I agree with this. If Democrats somehow managed to defeat Ryan this year and Clinton wins, then Dems would knock out Clinton's strongest potential challenger for reelection in 2020. But knocking out Ryan almost certainly won't happen, unless there is a giant dem wave. I think Ryan might consider a 2020 (or 2024, if a republican wins) run for president
