The federal election has caused 8 by-elections at the municipal level in Quebec. Lorraine mayor is listed in the first post. Election in District 3 in Granby to replace Pierre Breton already took place in December.

On February 21, mayor for Victoriaville to replace Alain Rayes (elected MP Richmond-Arthabaska). The official period for candidacies is January 8 to 22 but it looks like candidates will be André Bellavance, former MP, and André Guillemette, insurance broker.

February 21 is also the date for councillor of district 7, Saint-Sacrement, in Saint-Hyacinthe to replace Brigitte Sansoucy elected MP Saint-Hyacinthe-Bagot.

February 28, councillor for district 15, Lac-Beauchamp, in Gatineau to replace Stéphane Lauzon who was elected MP for Argenteuil - La Petite-Nation. Probable candidates are Liza Lauzon, just finishing her university studies and trying to win the seat vacated by her father, businessman Jean-François LeBlanc, and Caroline Desrochers, working for Quebec municipal affairs, representing Action Gatineau party.

February 28 is also the date to elect a new préfet for the MRC Rocher-Percé. That job was held by Diane Lebouthillier now MP for Gaspésie- Iles-de-la-Madeleine. Many people seem interested to run.

March 6, councillor district 1 Saint-Philippe-de-La Prairie to replace Jean-Claude Poissant elected MP for La Prairie.

There needs to be a by-election for mayor of Côte Saint-Luc (Anthony Housefather was elected MP Mont-Royal) but I have not found a date.

Four candidates for district 6 in Granby. They all have previously been candidates for municipal election before in other districts than 6.

http://www.lapresse.ca/la-voix-de-lest/actualites/201601/29/01-4945397-election-partielle-dans-le-district-six-a-granby-aux-electeurs-de-se-prononcer.php

Victoire Marie-France Collard ran in the December by-election in the district vacated because the councillor was elected MP (the man who left district 6 is now working at the constituency office of the MP). She received 1% of the vote so she doesn't seem like the strongest candidate. She wants the city to have an intercultural festival.

Normand St-Laurent did not speak to a local newspaper when they did profiles of each candidates and was not at the advance polling location like the other three. Keeping a low profile doesn't seem like a recipe for success.

I'm guessing the winner will be one of the other two.
Denyse Tremblay is a retired nurse, I think she lost in the last general election against the man who is now MP. She was supporting the candidate who was elected mayor. She did not make promises and want to listen to people.

Bruno Junior St-Amand was a candidate in the last general election, works at the credit union and he presented projects he wants to get done.

I've read Trudeau will be with Wynne in that riding.
Doesn't sound very prime ministerial to be in campaign of provincial politics.

Josée Latendresse, restaurant owner and president of the Saint-Charles street businesses association. She is running for the Action Longueuil party of the mayor.

A riding poll for the provincial by-election in Chicoutimi. It was done by Segma Recherche, 400 people from March 18 to 23, margin of error almost 5%.

PQ 39%
PLQ 33%
CAQ 17%
QS 7%
Vert 3%
Option Nationale 1%

Pollster says inthe first days the gap between the top 2 was big but in the last days it was almost tied, attributed to diminishing effect of Nathalie Normandeau's arrest.

New Segma poll just before the Chicoutimi bye-election. The PQ has a clear lead. The last week was bad for the government on ethics

PQ 44%
PLQ 22%
CAQ 18%
QS 9%
Vert 5%
ON 2%

margin of error of 4%.
60% think the Liberal party is corrupt.

A few weeks ago reports were PLQ thought they had a chance, hoping to score a symbolic win in a long time PQ seat. The MNA resigned because Péladeau replaced him as Parliamentary leader. Maybe the PQ voters would be disappointed by the move.

The margin of victory last election was 5%. The PLQ candidate is Francyne Gobeil. She has worked for Saguenay mayor and supports her. Pettersen was Independent candidate who received 11% last election, I think he is PLQ (he ran Liberal federally) and he supports Gobeil, so maybe some votes could come to PLQ. I saw an ineternet ad for Gobeil. It was about it's time to try something new, and to be heard, so you can try for two years to be on the government side instaed of always being in opposition.

That was the rationale for a possible win.

Hélène Girard is the CAQ candidate. She works in local radio. Waiting a trial for drunk driving.
Mireille Jean is for the PQ. Tyrrell for the Green is the leader, not from the riding but at least he campaigned there. Dostie for QS is a former candidate. Option Nationale also has a candidate.

(written from memory of what I read, didn't have time to check all facts)

Results of the Montréal-Nord borough mayor by-election. Easy win for the Coderre candidate. Projet Montréal had a black woman candidate; Coderre had a white woman despite the name.
There were two independents also on the ballot. Turnout was 20,57%

Équipe Coderre pour Montréal

MIBEL, Kerlande  2 553   23,11%

June 19th is also the date for a by-election in Boucherville for district 3. Josée Bissonnette is candidate for the mayor's party. She is a school commissioner. Monique Reeves is independent. She is a former councillor and wants to give a voice to opposition (maybe all council is on the same team).

http://www.la-seigneurie.qc.ca/actualites/politique/2016/6/11/deux-candidates-avec-des-projets-plein-la-tete-.html

There is also an election for mayor of Beaupré, east of Québec City. Pierre Renaud is a councillor and interim mayor. He has the support of council. The council also supports Michèle Abdelnour for district 6 against another candidate. Renaud and Abdelnour talk about the need of debt reduction. The other candidate for mayor is Jonathan Tremblay, former NDP MP. He received only 61 votes in a council by-election last year.

http://www.lautrevoix.com/Actualites/Politique/2016-06-02/article-4547560/Lancien-maire-suppleant-Pierre-Renaud-candidat-a-la-mairie-de-Beaupre/1

In Donnacona the two candidates are new to city politics. Isabelle Blackburn is a provincial civil servant, concerned about health and security of citizens. Jean-Claude Léveillée had a career in the military and now in business.

http://www.lapresse.ca/le-soleil/actualites/les-regions/201606/17/01-4993110-deux-nouveaux-venus-visent-la-mairie-de-donnacona.php?utm_categorieinterne=trafficdrivers&utm_contenuinterne=cyberpresse_B13b_les-regions_578_section_POS2

In Delson, councillor Stéphane Perreault vacated seat number 1 for north district to run for mayor. Running to replace him for that seat and from the same party is Jean-Michel Pepin.
The independent candidate for city council is Perry Doe. The independent candidate for mayor is Christian Ouellette. He owns a real estate agency, was involved in local chamber of commerce and was on city council for a term in early 2000s. He is not making promises, he will do that in the general election next year. (I checked the facebook page of the two mayor candidates and Ouellette is liked by many more people) I think both candidates are supported by a couple of councillors.

In Delson for one seat representing the northern part of the town, Jean-Michel Pepin of Action Delson won with 652 votes against Perry Doe (IND) 275 votes. Turnout was 32%. Turnout for the mayor's race was 34.3%

In Boucherville the mayor's candidate easily won. Josée Bissonnette (Équipe Jean Martel - Option citoyens - citoyennes) received 479 votes to 148 votes for Monique Reeves (IND). Turnout was 16%

Pierre Renaud is the new mayor of Beaupré. He got 407 votes while Jonathan Tremblay got 109 votes. Turnout was 15%.  Michèle Abdelnour was elected to council in district 6.

There were 5 candidates running for district 5 in ville Mont-Royal.

Claude Demers – 19 votes
Charles Faribault - 16 votes
Barbara Lapointe - 174 votes
Sarah Morgan - 53 votes
Michelle Setlakwe - 256 votes

Turnout was 24.5%. Faribault was a tv journalist on TVA. He was against the fence along Parc-Extension.
The winner, Setlakwe, is from the parti Action Mont-Royal, the party of the mayor and control all council. Looking for the result, unless there are many women with the same name, I found she is daughter of a former Senator appointed by Chrétien and spouse of Michael Fortier.

16 votes for the anti-wall candidate? Mount Royal residents love their wall. Gotta keep those Mexicans dirty hippies in Parc-Extension out! I suppose they're all backing Trump too?

I don't know if the fence was an issue and if it's a factor in his result. In the article I read he said it was his most controversial proposal.

Fleury I am pretty sure is a Liberal. He's the mayor's biggest ally on council, and he's surrounded by the local Liberal machine.  Fleury might actually be a potential Liberal candidate.

Fleury decided not to run in provincial Ottawa-Vanier. Wants to stay close to home for now. Madeleine Meilleur was ready to support him.

I was thinking that. He could start a family. Working in Ottawa he would not have to travel. Another reason he gave is he is copresident of Ottawa Celebrations 2017. Maybe it means the federal by-election would need to be more than a year from now unless he just doesn't want to say he,s waiting for the federal opening with better pay and no commute. He says he's willing to move to another level of politics in the future.

Claude Bisson will be the NDP candidate in the future Ottawa-Vanier provincial by-election. He is the brother of Gilles Bisson, MPP for Timmins-Baie James.

The CAQ candidate in Arthabaska will be businessman Eric Lefebvre. He was a councillor in Victoriaville, ran for the Conservatives in the 2008 federal election in Richmond-Arthabaska (came second with 29%) and in 2009 ran for mayor of Victoriaville (got 33% and lost to Alain Rayes who is now Conservative MP).

Luc Dastous was city councillor from 2009 to 2015 in Plessisville. Originally from Laurierville. Works at the youth and employment center in Victoriaville. Has worked in research and communications for the PLQ in the National Assembly. In 2000 was federal Liberal candidate in Lotbinière-L'Érable.

http://www.lanouvelle.net/actualites/politique/2016/9/22/couillard-annonce-la-candidature-de-dastous.html

In La Presse, in a story on Denis Lebel's former chief of staff resigning from his job in Couillard's office, we learn Denis Lebel seemed opened to running for the PLQ in Arthabaska.

Probably because of low turnout of by-election. The PLQ would get more than 35% in a general election I imagine. And not be in 4th in Marie-Victorin. QS is second in Marie-Victorin and with a good result in Verdun they do well in the two seats closest to Montreal.

For the federal Ottawa-Vanier, the Liberal nomination is not until late January. So far they have 9 candidates and 2500 members.

http://www.lapresse.ca/le-droit/politique/politique-federale/201612/09/01-5050006-les-candidats-devront-attendre-a-la-fin-janvier.php

The NDP nominated (uncontested) Emilie Taman (daughter of former Justice Louise Arbour). She was the candidate last election.
