It is actually Monona, but I thought it was Monomaniacs switching parties to vote for Trump in the caucuses. Incidentally, Monona, IA is close to the Wisconsin Border, while Monona County is along the Nebraska border. It is kind of odd to think of Nebraska and Wisconsin as both being neighbors.

mds32 speaks about official party registration, not how the people vote. It was (and partially is) a norm in the South, when vast majority of county residents (in some cases - 80% and above) were registered as Democrats (and elected conservative Democrats for local offices), while voting above 70% Republican in presidential (and, later, Congressional) elections.

Um, yes. I was adding the voting records to highlight that point.

Texas does not have party registration, but voters are considered to affiliate when they vote in a primary.

Based on a comparison of the 2016 primary to the 2014 primary:

Democratic to Republican

Caldwell
Calhoun
Crosby
Fisher
Jeff Davis
Kent
Kinney
Loving
Morris
Newton
Robertson
Stonewall
Upton

Republican to Democratic

Jefferson
Pecos
Terrell

There are now 222 Republican counties and 232 Democratic

^ Again - not simply conservative, but extremely conservative parish: less then 20% Obama in 2012. Not surprising: southern whites finally bothering to register the way they vote since 1960th....

True, it is just that it is happening now. Beforehand it used to be 2 Parishes. Now it is grown to 5 I believe within this year.

^ South-western Louisiana (Cajun country and nearby parishes) was one of the last relatively "loyal" to national party areas, despite being very conservative socially. But, as Karl Marx formulated, "quantitative change gradually lead to qualitative". May be this year presidential campaign played role too: Hillary is still much less popular in the South then Bill was (though more then Obama by simply being not Black), and Bernie is an "anathema" to Southern conservatives))))

GOP gains Pinellas... in Florida

Well, that seems unsuspected. I thought this was a Republican county ages ago that has only been drifting Dem. What's the history in Pinellas?

It looks to me like it has pretty much been voting right on the national PV in recent times.  It's a swing county that may drift back and forth.
