and make it a little more substantive and compassionate:

Paul Ryan dreams of a kinder, more substantive GOP:
As presidential hopefuls slug it out in a nasty primary, the speaker is trying to build a different identity for House Republicans.

Paul Ryan actually seems like one of the Republican Party's best hopes. He'll be a much better speaker than John Boehner.

For sure, and not just because Boehner was so awful. If he had run for President, I would have supported him without hesitation.

Interesting, but ultimately, I think it'll be unsuccessful. The GOP is too entrenched as the party of one kind of thinking in the voter's minds. The criminal justice reform will be nice if it goes through, but everything else will just reinforce the GOP's current image, whether for good or ill.

This will be anti incumbant yr, the GOP Senate majority is in peril because of it. And Boehner was doing it to House. It maynot help the GOP that much.

Criminal justice reform won't happen, not with this Republican party. Unless by 'reform' they mean 'cracking down' or stricter penalties, it is directly contradictory to what the conservative attitudes are when it comes to crime. A few good people like Mike Lee and Rand Paul will support it, but that's about it.

I don't agree with most of his policies, but I respect Ryan's view on the seriousness of governing. He seems like a decent man.

Most of the budget blueprint was already established during the 2012, default battle with Obama and Speaker Boehner concerning debt ceiling.

Sequester cuts will remain intake, until at least 2020, or if Dems take House back, at the earliest 2018. Most states have already made a lot of cuts, too.
