FF, will certainly be missed. Just finished listening to the Ziggy Stardust album, we have truly lost a great musician!

Best period was his collaboration with Eno in Germany, but Ziggy Stardust is a close second.

Epic FF

One of the few true inspirations I have had. Music's hit and miss imo but his courage to be unique has always inspired me.

I mean, I'd vote FF, but I was recently just introduced to the disconcerting assertion that he was some sort of nonce.

Eh, I don't believe that one. But who knows judging by the widespread abuse of children in 70's era Britain involving MPs and the likes of Jimmy Saville.

I'm not sure, which is why I'm not voting HP either.

Massive FF. His (and Queen's) epic "Under Pressure" bass line will live on forever, at least in Vanilla Ice's sampling.

Now that I remember it, he was named by Lori Maddox, who was a well-known groupie of such bands in the 70's

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnViqstGsYs&t=11m24s

(she was 13, he was 23 ... yeah)

Bowie himself seemed to be a lesser member of the more, err, notorious stars at the time who did such stuff (Maddox herself would later be essentially kidnapped at the age of 14 by Jimmy Page, and kept under strict wraps by the band's management.). So (although it doesn't excuse his actions) he was basically part of a very screwed up system that normalised statutory rape (one in which almost the entire music and entertainment industries were complicit).

The other thing is that saying FF to an artist/persona, is not the same as saying FF as a human being.

Thanks for the information. Contextualization definitely isn't the same thing as excuse, but it does help me come to terms with knowing this about someone whom I and a lot of people close to me have really liked and admired.

I'm going to out on a limb public opinion-wise and say he was somewhat overrated, but even then a definite FF. He damn near invented, or at least defined,  glam rock
