I go with Ford, although being a Democrat. I like Carter very much as an honest person, but not as prez.

Carter was petty good on the domestic front, but horrible in terms of foreign policy. Lean Ford.

Carter was taken down by a poor economy and a foreign policy blunder.
Ford took himself down.

Both sucked.

Carter, and while I count all the tired ways...I will put these reasons out:

- Rosalynn Carter, easily the most powerful FLOTUS between Eleanor and Hillary in policy and iconic status [I'd say she even edges out Betty, not by much]. Responsible for most of the mental health reforms that came under Carter.

- Making the position of Veep worth slightly more than "a warm bucket of pee"

Both were better than Reagan or anyone else after him however.

Both might've been decent (relatively outstanding) Presidents if they'd had the opportunity.

Ford.  I find the recent, relatively trendy re-appreciation of Jimmy Carter's very sub-bar Presidency to be somewhat baffling.

Carter restored trust in the office and led to Reagan, so Carter.

Ford, by far. His sense was very spot on, and it made up for his intelligence. He was smarter and more creative than his two predecessors and successor, but Kennedy and Reagan were just as creative/a character. Carter was slightly more intelligent in a sort of rural professor sort of way. They were both pretty good, but Ford's character and skill(Presidentially, not balancing) was well-suited to the Presidency.

Wouldn't mixed be a bit closer? Sure he didn't rescue the hostages in time but he did get Egypt to recognize Israel's right to exist.

Carter is underrated (although had faults) and Ford suffered from some terrible decision-making. Carter it is.

Gerald Ford.

Carter wasn't a bad president and he's a great person. Someone, you can trust in and have a beer with.

But Ford was the better, more experienced president and more of a leader. He was a likeable guy even for liberals. And like Carter, he was an honest and trustworthy person. And he deserves credit for cleaning up Watergate and restoring trust into the White House. I would rank Ford as an above-average president.

I would've voted for Carter, but Ford has gone down as the better choice in history.
