HP, but he was a necessary one considering what happened in the wake of his demise. Also, very mild as far as dictators go.

One of the more freedom leaning Communist dictators (it's a short list - mainly Sankara and people like Nagy/Dubcek) but a dictator nonetheless.

Still a literal freedom fighter against the nazi's, which is more than a lot of the "right" in, say, Croatia can call themselves.

He was definitely an interesting, complicated figure.

all and all he was a flawed FF.

I didn't like that he broke off ties w/ Israel in 1967, but most communist-controlled countries in Europe did this, so not something I'll judge him on harshly. Obviously, I don't like that he was a communist and dictator, but  he was much better then any of his neighbors, especially compared to Stalin, Khrushnev, or Ceausescu

Jews also enjoyed more autonomy and freedom in Yugoslavia then in other communist-controlled countries at that time.

the people seemed to love him and he generally kept the country together.

Would you say the same about, say, Dubcek?
