Unless you're an idiot, all this really comes down to is weather you prefer Des Moines or NYC. I;m going with NYC.

I still haven't gotten over my slight obsession with Iowa, so I'll go with Des Moines. I wouldn't mind living in a Romney part of NYC if it's in Brooklyn though.

Southern Brooklyn is nice.

Iowa is Iowa and incredibly boring.

I'm from southern Brooklyn. I know the precinct I lived in for many years had Obama just narrowly edging out McCain in 2008; I don't know how it voted in 2012, though I think Obama improved in southern Brooklyn (like in Staten Island), so he likely won it twice. Regardless, there are nearby very similar precincts that cast their votes for McCain, and probably also for Romney. Voted for the latter.

This. ^ That said, i'd like to know some examples of 80% Obama precincts in Des Moines. I get two VERY different images in my head of what that could be like ......

LOL, I don't care who my precinct votes for.  I think it's kind of amusing you do.

Anyway, I'll take Des Moines.  It's a great city.

The Brooklyn precinct my Dad was born in, and lived in, until age 12, voted probably about 75% for Mittens. It's actually a very nice little pocket of Brooklyn, and almost totally orthodox Jewish. I would not mind living there at all. I could acclimate them to seeing two men holding hands as they walk down the street. Smiley

Meh, I guess people might want to be able to talk politics with their neighbors and agree with them on most things. Although even very Democratic precincts can have Republican pockets, and vice versa, although this obviously won't show up in voting data.

I would rather live in NYC than Des Moines, but it has nothing to do with politics.

Is money no object? Because at my current household income, I could buy a suburban house in Des Moines or share an apartment with three other guys in NYC.

I suppose.  And yes, even living in an extremely liberal university town (Iowa City, IA), my friend group actually seems pretty split politically (maybe even a slight tilt toward Republican).  We just never get overly serious about it.  Way more important things to argue about, like where the cab should drop us off on Friday night to minimize walking. So what are those two images?

>80% Obama precincts in Iowa are heavily minority, but being Iowa still full of whites (in fact per DRA there's still a white plurality in them all, though not majority), located on the outskirts of downtown, and full of small pre-war homes and simplistic apartments with a young-leaning populace. And full of coffee shops, diners and bookstores. That sort of place.

You guys realize there are far more cool things in Des Moines than in the Romney voting parts of NYC?

Basically you have Staten Island (if anything cool does happen there it'd be on the D-voting North Shore), a bunch of Hasidic and Russian neighborhoods in southern Brooklyn and some neighborhoods in Queens that are a bunch of Italian olds. You aren't going to have any scene or shows or cool bars or coffee shops in such places. Far more in Des Moines.

Also Des Moines doesn't have a parade honoring a genocidal, mass murdering rapist piece of sh!t every October.

So you hop on the subway, and are in Williamsburg in 8 minutes or something.

Only in BRTD's world is this important for people when deciding whether they should live in Des Moines or in NYC Roll Eyes
