I also prefer version 1a to version 1b.
I feel that 1a would result in a large number of votes being unnecessarily invalidated based on an unimportant technicality. Historically speaking, it is extremely rare to have one person running on multiple tickets in a presidential election: if the Wiki is to be believed, it has happened exactly once in the last 11 years. By contrast, it is quite common for voters to list only the name of the presidential candidate on their ballots; under Section 1a, their ballots would not be counted despite everyone knowing who they intended to vote for. 1b puts the burden of complying with election law on the candidates, not the voters, and thus - in my view - is more inclusive.

What is the consensus on repealing/softening the 20 minute rule? Do we want to cut down on the time allowed for edits (say, to 10 minutes) or leave it as-is?

I'd rather leave it as-is. I know I've made some mistakes while voting in the past, and I think it's only fair to let someone correct their mistakes. 20 minutes also really isn't a long time, so voter fraud via intimidation or something doesn't seem like it would be a big deal.

I would also point out that attempts at intimidation are to my knowledge illegal, as well.

Considering that, as my colleagues have pointed out, we have some safeguards in place already and that the forum hangs significantly at times, my preference would be towards leaving the edit timeframe at 20 minutes.

There was a stated desire I think by someone earlier in this thread about the 20 minutes as it relates to the end of the election. Say the election only has 5 minutes left or 30 seconds and a person votes. Do they have ability to change it at say 12:15 AM?

I know this has come up before in discussion at least, but I don't recall if there was ever any certainty as to how it would be handled if it came up during an election. Would there be interest in addressing it now?

Can we make the deadline for candidate declaration for all federal offices 24 hours before the booth opens? Thanks.

I offer the following amendment:

I believe this incorporates the consensus on the 20-minute rule, as well as the suggestions of Yankee and Talleyrand.
