Leo Ornstein. If you've never heard of him, may I recommend his Piano Quintet?

Cool! Nice to see that people outside of my program (where everyone says they like Shosty because he's the director's fave) actually like the guy!

I don't know. I have only a very rudimentary knowledge of it. Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart all come to mind. I just never had the time/interest to really get into Classical, although I appreciate it.

I like the Shostakovich piece at the beginning of Eyes Wide Shut a lot.

Since my folks were musicians, and I myself have some classical training this is a toughie but here goes.

Baroque: J.S. Bach
Classical: Haydn
Romantic: Brahms
Post-Romantic: Sebelius

It's also lent me perspective regarding film OSTs as well, so I'll include that as well.

Golden Age Film: Bernard Hermann
Modern Film: Ennio Morricone [Not even John Williams matches this guy]

OMG! I actually played that one in a concert last year! For us basses, it's mostly repeating Cs and Gs at the beginning of each bar, but it's still cool!

Beethoven is my all time favorite, but I also like Mahler, Mozart, and really all Russian waltz composers.

I had no idea

Trombone. I'm actually pretty sure there's a trombone solo somewhere around two and a half minutes in there, but I can't confirm that.

Very nice. I don't recall a trombone solo, but I could be wrong.

An accurate list - and in no particular order although if there was an order I guess the first few names would tend to come first - would probably look something like:

Mahler, Shostakovich, Vaughan Williams, Bach, Beethoven, Bruckner, Britten, Brahms, Mussorgsky, Nielsen, Schubert, Schnittke and (if I'm honest) WAGNER.*

But then I like a lot of other stuff as well, often a lot.

*help!

One of my favorite modern composers is Eric Whitacre.

That is a particularly beautiful choral work...and I think the performance and setting here are pretty much perfect.

And then there's this... which was inspired by the deep field images from the Hubble Space Telescope

A masterpiece to say the least.
