Oppose except when it is necessary to protect the public from someone we can't safely keep locked up. So basically never in the US for people who are tried in court.

Every human being has the absolute right to choose when and how to die.

I oppose it on principle but what about the murdered victims. Choosing when and how we sir is against nature and sounds unintelligent. Did you really mean to come off this way?

Support. Everyone has the right to life, until they choose to forfeit it, in which case execution is justified.

It should be an option, just one we don't use all that often.

Oppose. Nobody has the right to kill anyone unless they're an imminent threat, which nobody that's locked up is.

Support, but mainly because I think locking someone away in a cage for their entire life (or close to it) is even more inhumane than execution. That's not even including solitary confinement, which is torture, period.

Neither, but I suppose I lean support considering i believe it should be used not terrorists since people could potentially make the a living martyr and/or make their release a target of kidnapping or attacks

This. Also, our judicial system makes mistakes sometimes, which could lead to wrongful executions, such as some of these cases http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/executed-possibly-innocent  Also, the cost of prosecutors pursuing the death penalty is higher than life imprisonment http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/seeking-death-penalty-adds-1m-to-prosecution-cost-study-says/?syndication=rss

Oppose.  I think there are people who deserve to die, but I don't trust society to determine who deserves death with 100% accuracy.  People make mistakes, and some mistakes in justice are unavoidable, but if we abolish the death penalty, at least government will be prevented from killing people who shouldn't die.

This. It's definitely over-applied, but I think it should remain an option for really heinous people, like Timothy McVeigh or Jon Allen Muhammad.

I'm becoming less sure all of the time.  Right now I'd say my flimsy position could be summed up as I sympathize with the arguments against it and I wouldn't care if individual states (or the country) abolished it, but I can't help but roll my eyes at some of the holier-than-thou arguments against it.  If I want to get rid of it, it's because it's a waste of many (after all those appeals) or because it's not Constitutional ... not because I feel an ounce of sympathy for the low-lifes whose lives are in question.

I support it, but only in cases were the offender is to dangerous to be given the opportunity to escape.

What prisoner is ever given the opportunity to escape?

If you have a life sentence, all you think about is escape, unless you like it on the inside, which isn't a good punishment. Every moment is an opportunity to them.
