The Unorthodox States of America

Over the course of the past few days, I have developed the above alternative fifty states based off of rough demographic, political, and cultural boundaries. As with Antonio's series a few years back, I plan on giving each of them names and calculating how they would have voted in various past election scenarios. Of course, suggestions are welcome.

Thanks! Cheesy

I especially like how L.A. County is it's own state. I don't mean to criticize your work, though! The insane amount of work you put in is visible, and it's very cool.

Some of those sate shapes are a bit odd, but it's still an interesting map.

Interesting map. Are Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Canton all in the same state?

Yes. I wanted to see if gerrymandering them all together would still allow for Democratic victories in surrounding areas, but I doubt they'll be able to.

Actually, I have a question. Since you said you are combining areas  with similar cultures and demographics, why are Portland and Seattle two separate states? I don't think combining them would make the state too big.

Thanks, guys! Smiley

After I finish figuring out all of the initial state information, I'll try to start working on historical election results, congressional apportionment numbers, etc.

Why you have the Weed Triangle, Wine Country, and Sacramento as its own is rather baffling.

And how you got Bakersfield and the Bay Area in one...huh?

It's about time. When need some electorial variety in these states. Tongue

Although TBH, I'm not sure it will. I guess it depends on where exactly the line is, but Antonio also did an alternate state series and IRRC his upstate New York state was just barley Democratic.
