Does anyone want to speculate on who gets to be the next Vice-President? Why doesn't Alcon run in the June elections??? Oh, and please don't pick Joe Republic (aka Palpatine) Grin. I don't have enough time every day to serve as governor and I just don't know the system well. Sad

I was wondering when this would be brought up--I haven't heard of any plans of who will replace Peter's position as Vice President.

On this issue, I'm pretty flexible.  With maybe one or two exceptions, I would probably confirm most anyone to finish out the last month of this term.

If it's too much of a problem finding a replacement, I could live with not having one at all for the rest of Alcon's term.

Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson didn't bother picking a VP as soon as they took office - they just waited until the next election cycle.

There was no provision in the Constitution at the time for filling that office.

Really, I didn't know that.  In any case, it would probably be easier just to leave the position vacant for now.  Not much point filling it for less than a month.

Article II, Section 3, Clause 2 of the Atlasian Constitution:

"If there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President, who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of the Senate."

Now I would interpret that as not specifying any actual time limit for that to happen.  The only reason I say this is that it was quite a tough choice for Alcon the first time he had to do this.  If he just ignored the obligation of filling the VP spot until the election in 3 weeks time, I wouldn't really care about it.

We also need to appoint a Treasury Secretary.  The office has been vacant for 2 months!

What does that have to do with this?

Oh, and what topic?

I'm working on the Treasury Secretary thing. I have someone in mind, but they have suddenly disappeared (obviously afraid of the sheer power and responsibility that the Treasury Department holds in Atlasia).

I'm going to be waiting for the next election cycle to select a VP. In other words, I will never select a VP. Wink
