That was the only explanation I ever received as well, but if it is true, then it was they who posted the "obscene" content and therefore they who should have been castigated.  Not opebo.

Anyway, the question of how he got banned is irrelevant. He skated by on his old timer status and pulled plenty of nonsense that would get newbies banned. IMO he should have been banned long before that incident.

Basically, Opebo was this self-righteous socialist who moved to Thailand, spent all of his money on prostitutes, and was (allegedly) a poster on a forum that, IRC, was dedicated to underage Thai girls. He also was the leading anti-moderator voice and turned out to be one of the most prolific reporter of posts on the forum.

apparently there was a big dust-up.  I missed it.  At the time, I was on a scuba diving adventure in Saint Lucia, and apparently the day of the banning was the day that I left.  (I am off the clock typically from mid-December till mid-January, and it is my custom to fill the end of that period with a week in the Caribbean with other diving aficionados.)  All I know is that when I got back to civilization--read:  the grind--and was again on the 'net, I saw many red Missouri shields.  Curious, I sent a message to a poster who doesn't exaggerate and who lives here full-time.  He told me that some bastards (I won't mention names) pulled out some discussion on some other forum wherein he discussed the advantages and disadvantages of certain houses of pleasure.  He even provided me a link to the posts provided by opebo's enemies.  I forget the details now, but it was obvious that opebo was very well schooled in those houses.  He did discuss many aspects of the pleasures, and I must admit that I was a bit astonished at the level of detail.  Still, when I chased down the original source, it became abundantly clear to me that the discussion was perfectly appropriate to the forum in which he was posting.  Whatever information he gave was given on another forum.  He did not violate the terms of this site, as I understand them.  He was, however, a long-time target of certain posters on this forum.  I am still a little astonished that his enemies managed to pull it off.  It would be as if I were posting all sorts of nasty things that might violate the terms of this site, but posting it on another forum, and you come along and copy and paste that post from another forum and manage to get me banned.  It smelled really bad then, and it smells really bad now.  I can see no legitimacy in his banning insofar as I understand the particulars of the banning, but like I said, I wasn't in country when it happened; I learned of it about a week later, so I may not be the best source of information. I think that probably Leip over-reacted, but I also think that he was goaded into the ban.  He does want to keep this forum legit in the sense that school students can use it as a legitimate source of election information, after all.  I do know that opebo had many enemies, and a few of them never did strike me as particularly ethical people.  You have to give them kudos:  it struck me as the sort of coup that any 19th-century Latin American dictator would be proud of.
