III. ESTABLISHMENT & MANAGEMENT OF CONVENTIONS

1. The Labor Party Convention will start one month before the Atlasia Presidential Election, with the location of the convention rotating among the five regions of Atlasia in the following order: Mideast, Imperial Dominion, Pacific, Northeast and Midwest.

Commune one, commune all to the Fall 2015 Labor Party Convention in Dalton, situated in the stanky Tennessee Valley!

Atlasia's most fabulous political party gathers at the sultry, wet "Carpet (Munching) Capital of the World" to do the same thing as it always does. We come to revise our methods of operation. We come to draft our ideals into a concrete, concise platform. We come to communicate with one another and become a more cohesive force. Perhaps most importantly, however: we come to once again to secure the future of our country and our Party.

There are a number of items that we will address in the coming days – each of which are important and require your attention as a Laborite. These items include:

  • Adoption of Party By-Laws
  • Adoption of Party Platform
  • Labor Party Presidential Primary/Endorsement
  • Labor Party Senatorial Primaries/Endorsements
  • Winter 2016 Convention Location Selection
  • Open Floor Discussions

As with any convention, it is important to have an orderly process. By my calculations, it could take the better part of a month to complete all of these tasks if we only do one at a time. For this reason, we will be conducting business side-by-side; not every aspect of this convention will be conducted at once, but if a particular item is taking too long we will begin working on another subject concurrently. Due to all of this, I ask that all posts made by Party members within this thread use the following coded system when it pertains to your specific comment at the beginning of each post:

[BYL] - By-laws
[PLA] – Party Platform
[END] – Presidential Endorsement
[SEN] – Senatorial Endorsement
[CON] – Convention Location Selection

This will make record-keeping and reference for all much easier.

Radicalized bretzels, bread and roses - along with our convention's favorite of canine con carne - will be served by our supple and sweaty unionized Latino workforce this evening as our guests check in, with formal activities beginning sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, please sign in!

[END] In cases where we have had contested federal elections within the Party, it has been customary for the endorsement/primary process to be conducted first. This ensures we have our nominees as soon as possible and do not have to deal with problems in the days before the general election.

While we are having a primary debate in another thread on the main FE board page, it is also customary for there to be a 48-hour period in which the candidates directly address the convention. Following that period, there will be a 48-hour primary vote.

The campaigning period within this thread shall begin at 12:01 AM ET tonight (6.5 hours from the time this post was made) and shall last for 48 hours. The primary vote period shall begin at the same time on Monday morning, and will also last 48 hours.

Just for those who haven't seen it. I'm running a new opinion poll on the Labour Primary and Presidential Election. The poll can here found here. I have PMed it to about half of the Labour members and the other half will receive a PM soon.

Friends, it's great to welcome you to the Labor Convention. I've declared my candidacy only a two days ago yet we've already seen a powerful movement take place around us. I've been endorsed by the only Labor Senator, Truman and by the other sitting Governor VPH. I've released my plan on reforming the office of President I've announced my own economic plan in the debates and I've made the positive case for a renewed fight for Atlasia.

However I feel that now is the time to go into greater depth about why I challenged President Griffin for the nomination of the Labor Party. I've already discussed this several times, but I feel that now is some time for clarity. I always knew that I would be criticized by some as being 'un-labor' for challenging a member of my own party but it was the values of a the Labor Party that made me realize that we needed to have an opportunity to put a positive and powerful case for Atlasia. Whether it was passing police reform, expanding healthcare coverage or raising the minimum wage; I've always fought for Labor values.

These values are simple for me; it's about putting an optimistic and active case for the working people of Atlasia. The office of Presidency is the best tool to do this; and I feel that President Griffin has failed to do. He's failed to take part in any budget talks, he's failed to pass an economic bailout for the regions and he's failed to shown the energy, enthusiasm and passion that I believe the office of President should demand. It's not 'un-labor' of me to criticize the President, in the same way that its not 'Un-Atlasian' of me to criticize any other politician. I felt that as a party we couldn't simply sit here when so many of us had deep concerns about our leader.

I will be speaking later to the convention about my other plans, as well as making one lass definitive case about why a Blair Presidency can propel Atlasia into a new era. I'm sure that a lot of you are sick of hearing my voice but I'm not going to apologize. As President I would hold myself to the values that I judge others with; activity, integrity and respect. I know that some of you will be unable to vote for me because I took the step of challenging my own President. But this is the type of leadership that Atlasia needs; we cannot sit on the sidelines simply for the sake of Politics. It is time for us to act friends, and make our voices heard.
