Of course Bernie Sanders would write a fictional story about a straight couple. How cis-heteronormative of him! Ridiculous! No ally

Look, anyone who doesn't think this will be an issue in a general election is totally delusional. The GOP and the media are going to play wave after wave of this. They're going to make him totally toxic to suburban swing voters. Even conservative minority Democrats (and there are a hell of a lot of them) will think this rape-essay-writing atheist-Jew-socialist who honeymooned in the Soviet Union and admiringly waxed poetic about Fidel Castro on TV is a radical weirdo who they don't want in the White House.

Yeah, Jesus can you imagine?

Unflattering shot of Bernie Sanders, black & white, as an ominous synth drone plays

Sounding uneasy and concerned, a woman reads from the essay.

"A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy. A woman on her knees, a woman tied up, a woman abused.

"A woman enjoys intercourse with her man — as she fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously.

"The man and woman get dressed up on Sunday — and go to Church, or maybe to their 'revolutionary' political meeting."

Full colour, upbeat music, TRUMP with his wife at Thanksgiving dinner or something, all smiling.

TRUMP: "This guy, he wants to rape women. It's disgusting and wrong. I love women. I have a beautiful wife and a beautiful daughter. I think they're terrific."

"Donald Trump. The only candidate who respects women. Make America Great Again."

I can completely see Trump running an ad like that and it would work.

Remember when Hillary was a public defender and legally obligated to defend a rapist.

Honestly TRUMP would probably just pull it out and read it word for word at one of his rallies (broadcast live on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and CSPAN).

I wouldn't put it past Trump, considering Sanders already mocked his "Global warming is a Chinese hoax" tweet.

Do you seriously not understand what a defense lawyer's role is?

Most people who go to trial are guilty. Every single one of them still gets to have a defense lawyer argue on their behalf. It's, like, the bedrock of our criminal justice system.

Unfortunately, the Bernieacs are running a scorched earth campaign, throwing every single Democratic value (women's rights, gay rights, civil rights) under the bus in their quest to force Sanders down our throats.

Slandering 12-year-old rape victims, clearly.

She was defending her client. It may leave a bad taste in your mouth but thats part of being a public defender, defending terrible people are making their victims look bad.

Do you think she should have pulled a Keanu Reeves and stood up in the middle of the trial and said, "I'm sorry, Your Honor, my client is obviously guilty! Convict him!!!"

Because if she'd done that the trial would be entirely thrown out and start over with a new defense lawyer. And she would have been disbarred. And her client would have his constitutional right to an attorney denied.

Would you like her better then?

I get it -- I'd never want to be a defense lawyer either. Just too "icky" or something. But we absolutely have to have them, and the worst, most obviously-guilty have to have someone advocating on their behalf or our system is a sham.

Don't worry, you'll be hearing a lot about this the day after Sanders wins the nomination.

Well, he'll be running against someone who may have actually raped someone so...

You're thinking of Bill Clinton. He has rape allegations against him.

You can defend your client without calling a 12-year-old rape victim (who was beaten unconscious for 5 days by a man you know is guilty) a mentally-ill liar in your deposition, which is, by the way, lying under oath, which is a felony and should've gotten her disbarred and put into prison.

She also did not have to take the case, but in fact she specifically requested to take it.

Neither Bernie Sanders nor Hillary Clinton should be attacked for things they did over 40 years ago. End of subject.

Sanders supporters are like some sort of weird cult. I've actually read posts from them saying "believe in the magic" and all sorts of weird things. They think Sanders is some sort of supernatural being. Sick.

They'll be pretty disappointed when South Carolina pulls back the curtain.

If a Republican had written an essay like that in any context, the sort of people who support Sanders would be all over it. I think it's odd, but apparently it's okay for most people.
Theres an incredible double standard and this is a deeply disturbed peace of publication by Sanders

I think Hillary's case is far worse, what if the women comes forward and appears in an ad slamming Hillary for slandering her. Ad makers and voters won't care if she was doing her job if thats her excuse, they will see her defending a child rapist and attacking the victim.

LOL, no. Bernie did some real work to expose Pharma Bro, and then Hillary tweeted about it, and then when Hillary tweeted about it, Hillary supporters falsely claimed the problem was solved. The same happened again when Hillary mentioned the Flint water after Bernie had already called on Gov. Snyder to resign. The magic Hillary pixie dust didn't solve either of those problems.

Well, again jfern, people who actually know things about the situation, like... oh, you know, the Mayor of Flint, disagree with you.

Nowhere in the text Sanders said he was the one fantasizing about rape, and it's an objective truth that it's a common fantasy, and it's an objective truth that it has to do with gender roles and that it's problematic in general for love, trust and sex between men and women. I don't see anything wrong in the article posted.

BUT, since people are morons, and the media is voluntarily misleading, this could be very problematic for Sanders if it came to that, yes.

Unfortunately, it is a very common fantasy. There are some 'humans' out there who want nothing more than to rape a woman, and watch her suffer.
