Option 2 for me.

The Democrats have now agreed to only filibuster in 'extraordinary circumstances'. However, all along the Dems have only filibustered in 'extraordinary circumstances'. The Dems have lost this battle.

None of the circumstances were extraordinary.

Anyway, I don't care. The nuclear option is still on the table, and if the Democrats decide to take your definition of extraordinary, all we need is two GOP senators to get pissed (and they will), and we go nuclear. Bottom line, we win.

I voted Option 2 but I in reality I'm glad there was a compromise. The judges themselves, although unqualified, aren't my main issue here. There must always be a voice for the minority, or else we become a democracy in name only.

Yes, but because of the game theory, not the immediate effect.

Personally, I think that this particular agreement is stupid, because of course there aren't going to be many Republicans who will perceive any of Bush's appointments as "extraordinary", and since it's an entirely subjective issue, they'll just yell about it no matter what if any Democrat tries to filibuster anyone at all.

Regarding whose side I take, I don't even really care, as this issue is one of my cold-button issues.

I oppose the compromise, as its preserves the filibuster.

It seems more Republicans would compromise and more Democrats just want to have it their own way. Smiley

Neither really compromised, from what I know of the deal.  The Republicans still have the nuclear option and the Democrats still have the filibuster, so it seems to me that we're basically right back where we started, except for the fact that three judges get to go up for a vote.
