Personally I don't care if it's a thread about someone who is clearly a bigot/troll/terrible person/whatever, but for anyone else it doesn't seem like a good idea to have everyone rating each other. That doesn't tend to lead to good things.

Voted neither.

Both

Usually used to either highlight controversial posters, celebrate excellent posters, or call-out sh*^posters.

Sometimes there's that excellent feeling of "thank goodness I ain't the only one thinking that", other times...the opposite is true.

So both.

Freedom threads, although I'm not a big fan of the "let's pile on someone I hate" threads.

My observation is that, so often, someone is about 50-50 in the poll, but almost every post is saying "FF" or something. I'd rather someone bash me in person--if it's insightful, I can work on improving, and if it's just a silly attack, I can have a chuckle at it.

This is going to sound horrendously vain, but I liked when I was the subject of two so FT.

Generally a bad idea for what should be obvious reasons, but here....meh, they let the clique people feel good about themselves, and those guys need all the positive reinforcement they can get, so whatever.

It's a little disturbing that we can all pile on people over the internet without actually meeting them in person. However, it can help people make necessary changes in their posting style, and recognize good posters. If they're an obvious troll or hold views that are literally (and I mean literally) indefensible, I have no issue. All in all, FT.
