Honestly, I feel like blacks would leave the Democratic Party enmasse if the first black President was defeated for denomination for no discernible reason by angry old Jewish guy from Vermont.

It's a timeline, dude. Chill. Also, the AA coalition existed before Obama was a household name; why would it just dissolve?

Why is this feeling like OTL 2016 crashed hard into 2012? I love it.

BLOOMBERG PLEDGES A 50 STATE CAMPAIGN, WILL SPEND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS
Speaking at a press conference in New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who recently announced his independent bid for President lambasted the nominations of Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders of their respective parties. "The political parties have snapped or something, I mean this is insane. Donald Trump, the Republican nominee and Bernie Sanders the Democratic nominee? The American people deserve a third choice. They deserve another way instead of allowing the two extremes of both the right and the left defining agenda." Bloomberg pledges to campaign in all fifty states and will spend hundreds of millions of dollars of his own money to wage a competitive and "hopefully successful campaign."

Polls show Bloomberg trailing the Republican front runner and Bernie Sanders. Though he is running competitive in New York, New Jersey and in New Hampshire.

NBC/WSJ Poll: 2012 General Election

New York: Trump +7
Trump: 31%
Sanders: 24%
Bloomberg: 21%

New Jersey: Trump +6/center]
Trump: 30%
Sanders: 24%
Bloomberg: 19%

New Hampshire: Trump +3
Trump: 30%
Sanders: 27%
Bloomberg: 15%

National Polls: June 2012
Trump: 36%
Sanders: 28%
Bloomberg: 14%

Sanders on his opponents: "They're both billionaires"
Bernie Sanders offered a retort to his primary opponents in the general election. "They're both billionaires. They don't understand the problems facing working people. If we want this country to become an oligarchy then there are the choices: Trump and Bloomberg."

Sanders Names Jim Webb as his choice for Vice President
In an effort to unite a badly fractured Democratic party, Bernie Sanders asked Virginia Senator Jim Webb to join his ticket. Webb, who has military experience and served in the Reagan Administration is seen by many pundits as an attempt by Sanders to draw support from more moderates and perhaps Republicans turned off by Donald Trump's harsh rhetoric.

TRUMP SELECTS MA SEN. SCOTT BROWN FOR VICE PRESIDENT
In a surprise pick, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has selected Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown as his running mate. Trump calls Brown, "an average guys he understands we cannot allow the political class and the stupid people to keep ruining our country." Brown is currently serving out the remainder of the Senate term vacated by the late Ted Kennedy. Brown is running for reelection to the Senate for a full term and pledges to continue his senate campaign, while running for Vice President.

Scott Brown shocked the political world in 2010, when he won a surprising upset in the Senate race to fill the vacancy by Kennedy. He rocketed to the top of Republican party politics, but in the Senate has largely conducted himself as a moderate, often working together with his fellow Democrats to find compromise and build consensus. Brown, a pro-choice Republican could pose some challenge with more conservative at the Republican Convention, but given Trump has defied political convention throughout his run, it seems Brown's nomination will likely not be a problem.

The selection of Brown is an interesting choice for Trump, as he doubles down on his every-man appeal. Brown, who ran a populist campaign for the Senate in 2010 fits well with Trump's grassroots enthused campaign, focused on the working class and blue collar voters, which Brown won in 2010. The Brown nomination is comparable to the Jim Webb. The more polarizing top of the ticket figures, picking more moderate/centrist candidates aimed at drawing votes from the middle.

Brown, who will run for reelection to a full term in the Senate in Massachusetts faces Democrat Congressman Barney Frank. Polls show Brown ahead of Frank 52 percent to 43 percent

In accepting his spot on the Trump ticket, Brown applauded Trump's campaign slogan of wanting to "make America Great again." Brown blasted the Obama Administration and took aim at Bernie Sanders, the likely Democrat nominee. "What Bernie is proposing may work in a place like Denmark, but it won't work here, not in the United States. This is America, we don't embrace socialism we reject it!"

A recent poll conducted in Massachusetts finds Bernie Sanders narrowly ahead of Donald Trump 39 to 33 percent, with Michael Bloomberg taking only 11 percent.

President Obama Approval Ratings: August 2012
Approve: 35%
Disapprove: 59%

July Unemployment Rate Ticks Upward: Bad News for the Democrats?
8.9%

Sanders: "Obama's Failed"
Bernie Sanders appears to be agreeing with his Republican rival, calling President Obama a disappointment he failed on his campaign promises of transforming America. Democrats have been quick to pile onto Sanders' comments. Senate Minority Leader Harry Ried, blasted Sanders for giving "fire to the Republicans". Vice President Joe Biden called the comments, "unhelpful." Sanders who is struggling in the polls against Donald Trump is seeking to shake from the Obama Administration -- even though he challenged the incumbent in the Presidential primary.

Trump: "Bernie's Right; Obama's Failed our Country"
Seizing on the comments made by Bernie Sanders, Republican candidate Donald Trump was quick to note, "Sanders is right in his criticism of Obama. He's failed. This guy has the balls to stand up and say what even many Democrats are thinking. The guy's a total loser and failed our country." Trump who continues to hold onto impressive leads in the polls says he looks forward to the debates where he can demonstrate, his superiority of the issues and policies to help make America great again.

Biden: "This election concerns me"
Two weeks before the Democrats are set to nominate Bernie Sanders, Vice President Biden expressed concerns over the 2012 election, saying "the extremes have taken over either party" and that he as concerns over the direction the country could take, regardless of who's elected. Biden, who has discounted the third party candidacy of Michael Bloomberg, saying Bernie Sanders offers the most rational path over Trump, "but by a hair."

BREAKING NEWS: BERNIE SANDERS DISCLOSES CANCER DIAGNOSIS
Presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, Bernie Sanders has disclosed he has been diagnosed with cancer. This bombshell revelation comes as the Republicans are preparing to nominate Donald Trump. Sanders has released no formal statement, following the announcement, but many Democrats are already calling on him to step aside. Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a statement saying, "Bernie Sanders' health should be a top priority and for the good of the party and the country he should step aside and allow another candidate to be nominated."

BREAKING NEWS: BERNIE SANDERS DROPS OUT
Citing his recent health diagnosis Bernie Sanders announced with his wife Jane by his side, he was ending his bid for the Democratic nomination, thus leaving the Democratic Party without a nominee, heading into the convention. Sanders, the Independent Vermont Senator, who launched a once thought long shot bid for the nomination against incumbent President Barack Obama, managed to upset the President and head into the convention as the presumptive nominee, following the withdrawal of Obama. Now, with Sanders out of the running, Democrats are scrambling.

The President, currently holds a 35 percent approval rating, on top of a rising unemployment rate is seen as an unlikely and damaged contender. As Republicans are set to meet in Tampa, Democrats are scrambling to find a replacement: Possible contenders include, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden Senator and presumptive Vice Presidential nominee Jim Webb.

Who should Democrats Nominate to Replace Bernie Sanders?
Hillary Clinton: 34%
Joe Biden: 31%
Barack Obama: 14%
Other: 20%
Jim Webb: 2%

Hillary Clinton Rules out Run For President. "If Nominated I will not Run."

Jim Webb: "I would consider being the Democrat Nominee"

Joe Biden: "Our Country needs Leadership and I'm Stepping Up."
Standing by his side, President Obama gave his blessing to Vice President Joe Biden who threw his hat into the ring for the Democratic nomination. "A call to service will not go unanswered. Our country needs leadership and I'm stepping up to serve my party and my country." Biden, the Vice President will likely win the nomination from the floor of the convention in Charlotte, North Carolina , but other names have been mentioned including Jim Webb and Democrat Representative Allan Grayson.

As Democrats Scramble Donald Trump Becomes The Republican Nominee
"We will win. We will succeed and we will make our country great again -- perhaps even greater than ever before I promise."

Bloomberg Calls it Quits, Backs Biden
Refusing to be a spoiler in the Presidential Election, given the increasing strength of Donald Trump Michael Bloomberg has ended his campaign for President and endorsed Joe Biden. The New York City Mayor called Biden, "the person who will ensure Donald Trump does not become President, so I throw my whole support behind him." Bloomberg's polls numbers remained in the low-to-mid double digits, but many believed he was hurting Biden. Trump fired away on Twitter as Bloomberg ended his campaign, "Winners don't quit and quitters never win."

Debate Night: Trump vs. Biden
Donald Trump and Joe Biden finally agreed on debate terms for the Presidential election after a back and forth between the campaigns over the format, number of debates and length. Trump originally proposed two moderator debates, while Biden was in favor of a single traditional debate and two town halls. The Trump campaign rejected two town hall formats and proposed a single debate and threatened to boycott the debate and instead hold his own town hall during the time slot. The Biden campaign agreed and the compromise produced a single debate, moderated by PBS' Jim Lehrer. The Vice Presidential candidates, Jim Webb and Scott Brown would meet for a single debate after the Presidential one.

The Trump strategy was to stay above the fray; hit Biden and the Obama Administration when need be, but focus mostly on his message. The debate was seen as Joe Biden's last stand, given his declining poll numbers and poor perception and opinion of President Obama. Heading into the debate, polling averages put Trump ahead of Biden 49 percent to 40 percent.

Trump: Tempered, in Command
"I'm a rich guy. I don't apologize for that, I want everyone to be rich, I want America to be rich again."

"We don't have a country anymore. No borders, equals no country. I'm going to build a wall. Mexico is going to pay for it, and we will be secure and strong."

"America doesn't need anymore of the same old politicians. America needs change, real change. I'm not a politician. I'm a businessman I make great deal, I will make great deals for America. I want to make our country great again -- great again for all of our people."

"I'm a man of action, Mr. Vice President. I'm not just talk. Politicians are all talk, no action. I like solutions. I get results."

Biden: Fired up, Passionate
"From Donald all you hear is stuff, nothing but stuff. Where's the specifics? You know, where's the solutions?"

"This is a bunch of a malarkey. Donald knows Mexico cannot pay for the wall. This is just silly. Folks use your heads here. Think."

"My record has been about the middle class, from the day I became a Senator to the day I became Vice President and that record will continue when I'm President."

"I say what is on my mind. There are no surprises with me. I'm someone you can trust."
