Well this is a great first step, but this country seriously needs to phase out solitary confinement entirely, except for maybe the very worst people our society has to offer. It's disgusting how we could this to people, and the only thing I can think of that is worse is how long we've continued to do it despite knowing how devastating it can be to the inmate's mental health.

You're acting like this is a humane tool to use. Any prolonged use of solitary confinement should not be allowed, period. If you think putting someone alone in a cell with little to nothing to do for weeks/months/years is just dandy, then maybe you should try it for a few weeks first and get back to us.
