Lots of these kids are just as bad or worse than the adults in max security.
And solitary confinement is wrong for them too.

Ughhhh God spare me. I grew up around cops. I saw ever since I was a little kid the absolute scum and criminals they deal with. So forgive me if I don't share you new found adoration for how "wrong it is" *sniff sniff tear tear* to subject those poor lost souls to *GASP* solitary confinement.

Man is not meant to be alone, at least exclusively alone for years at a time. If anyone should doubt that, try to sit in a room by yourself for 16 hours without audio or visual stimuli. It's harder than you might think. I do think some time alone can be a good tool for reflection, maybe up to ~3 hrs or so. But putting a juvenile in solitary confinement is probably not a good idea for their development.

I respect your viewpoint. I guess I just feel no shred of any feelings towards juvenile deliquents. But remember, I was bullied as a kid and grew up around policemen. My thoughts at 11 years old were "I hope they get run over by a bus". My thoughts at 27 haven't liberalized.

Prison isn't supposed to be a cakewalk.  They're not there on vacation!  I didn't say that the officers should abuse solitary confinement, and it can definitely be abused.  My problem is with Obama banning it for juveniles entirely.  Officers need the threat of confinement sometimes to get them to calm down.  If they know its not an option anymore, not even for a short time, the officers lost a major tool of discipline.

Liberals will disagree. They think the bad guys are good and the good guys are bad.

Can it really be helpful for prison behaviour to use a method that is linked to significant mental disorders in a wanton manner?

This is the most boring thing. I can't even bother to be irritated with it, it's such a feeble effort at provocation.

I was going to respond earlier, but it seemed pointless. It reminded me of that ignorant tripe you would expect to see from conservative commenters on /r/politics. Something along the lines of: "Wuh? This libruhl doesn't support torture? Him and all other libruhls must be pro-criminal and anti-authority then!"
