If only the woman had had a gun as well! She could have defended herself! Or how does the pro-gun spin work for this?

"The gun had dropped to the floor during the film."

Do you think there might have been a way to prevent that?

Boy, it's a good thing he brought protection, otherwise someone could have gotten hurt.

guns should have little gliders with motors attached, so that if a gun finds itself in the air, it floats.

Don't guns have safety locks?

Most guns have safety's and for it to go off he would've almost surely had to have had a bullet in the chamber (i.e. Cocked).

It's more of the absurdity and implausibility of that story.

Really? Is really nobody going to say it?

These people were at a Benghazi movie. Whoever got shot should've known who she was getting into a movie theatre with. It's a risk you are willingly taking when you hang out with this crowd.

That is deep.

It's like a cosmic chicken and egg thing.

Safety off, gun not secured, and loaded gun. Not very common procedure.

So...

He dropped a cocked, unsecured handgun on the floor.
It discharges a round into some lady's shoulder.
He then tries to run away because he's mixed benzos with alcohol.

Questions.

1) Why was the gun unholstered? I assume it didn't fall out of a holster or his pocket because that isn't plausible. Most likely, he was holding it for one reason or another.

2) Why was the gun cocked? Uncocked guns do not discharge when dropped on the ground.

3) Benzodiazapines (anti-anxiety medicine) and alcohol are extremely toxic and debilitating when mixed. How was this man able to run from the scene if he were in such a condition? Clearly, he was intoxicated enough to brandish a handgun, cock it, and shoot someone...on accident.

Honestly, a lot of this doesn't add up.

Sure it does.  Some rube sticks the gun in his waistband......an invitation to pop out.  One in the chamber, when it hits the ground God knows what happened.  Safety probably was off.

OMG that's amazing. I wish we were on AAD so I could like this post.

But in all seriousness, when a "good guy with a gun" stops a mass shooting, the good guy in question is almost always a police officer, a security guard, or a solider. Civilians carrying concealed handguns (or openly carrying assault rifles) are more likely to just be a danger to themselves and others.

I'd disagree. There's more cases of self defense, and overall lower crime, in states with concealed carry. If you openly carry an "assault weapon" (which is basically a pistol when you think about it), you're not going to use it. Criminals like the element of surprise, no?

Colin Ferguson thought so.
