He's been portrayed as a villain in media many times, but does Atlas think he's evil?

Very much so.

Is there something pitiful and sad about him? Yes. But there's no denying a lot what he said could easily be put into a Saturday morning cartoon.

I'm actually reading the tapes, it's some really crazy sh[orc].

Not as evil as Reagan, but still evil.

I thought this would be about rich people.

Either way, evil.

Well, I'm sure Cambodians, Vietnamese, Bengalis, and a lot of others had a.... sunny opinion of the man.

I don't see him as evil, just an overly-paranoid tragic character.

I wouldn't describe him as evil, but as paranoid. Watergate was unnessecary, because he was gonna win 1972 anyway. This behavior and Actions were a reult of his 1960 loss; an election, of which Nixon was convinced, that it was stolen from him by voter fraud. After that, he thought that just everyone (especially the east-coast liberal establishment and media) was against him. He was absolutely paranoid, but clever at the same time.

So, Nixon did bad things, he broke the law, but others did too (Iran Contra as an example). On the other hand, he had great successes like détente. He was pragmatic thinker of foreign policy and way way better than other succeeding presidents. No comparison to W, who proved to be a disaster. And Nixon’s domestic policy wasn’t bad either. Especially on environmental protection his administration deserves great credit.

Easily yes. And Watergate has very, very little to do with.

Yes, as I alluded to in my own post, Nixon is directly responsible for the deaths of a lot of non-Americans.

He certainly had his character flaws, but he wasn't evil.  Except for Watergate, he was actually a pretty good president.

Obviously evil. This does little to negate, and in fact reinforces, his ever-pertinent legacy in American politics, especially now of all times.

I agree with you, for once. I'm not sure that I would call him a tragic figure (that seems a bit too romantic), but he had his good spots (EPA/Environment in general and Detente) among the bad.
