Who can unite the G.O.P in 2016? Marco Rubio? Ted Cruz?  An consensus conservative candidate like Paul Ryan?  Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam at a brokered convention?

The elite will abandon the party and support Michael Bloomberg.

At this point, it's probably too late for unity. If it were a month or two earlier, probably Rubio.

Trump will lead to an re-alignment.    It's inevitable.

I don't think there's any uniting. The GOP might be ripped apart in this election. I imagine Bloomberg will pick up a lot of support if he were to run.

Another difficult election for the GOP and Trump resemble alot of what Romney stood for, Crony Capitalism. Most of the states are in battlegrounds that Obama won twice, I think Ds win

Cruz would reunite the Republican party the most, absolutely. His nuts are the one thing all sects of Republicans would be greatly proud of to have stand in front of the nation. This isn't to say he would unite the best GOP coalition for the GE, though. Do not get me wrong, just saying his principle and stones really would muster together a lot of Republican's being proud about him as a nominee.

Trump will absolutely tear the GOP apart, bet on that. 2020 will be an absolute mess because you will have polarized sects of the GOP anti-trump VS the rednecks & auto-mechanic uncles like never before.

Ted Cruz.

Unless there is a significant event that successfully unites the right AGAINST something, like social justice warriors. Then they might unite behind Rubio, too.

A defeat of a non-establishment candidate, so that the GOP realizes, it must move to the center in order to win an election.

That's not true. On Election Night 2004, Paul Bagala and James Carville were talking about how the Democrats can't win elections in 2008 unless they deal with God, Guns and Gays. Nominate moderates towards the center.

They nominated a far-left black candidate from Chicago and won Indiana and North Carolina. They won bigger than in decades with a left-wing candidate, not a moderate.

In political terms, anything can happen. Republicans could win Pennsylvania and Minnesota this year for the first time since the 1980s. Who the hell knows.

I meant more towards the center, not the center. A moderate-conservative candidate like Kasich, Arnie or Charlie Baker. Cruz for example is far more right-wing than Obama ist left-wing.

Agreed. Actually, I believe both the GOP and the Dems are feeling the unrest/irritation of the electorate this cycle, it's just a bit more obvious within GOP ranks because of the current fractured nature of the party. (Which is to say, the party having three very distinct segments: disenfranchised, establishment, and evangelical).
